I find this picture to be exactly what it is: A two dimensional sketch that will pass relatively unnoticed in the long history of Empires.
Although I admit that the star spangled banner is aesthetically pleasing (as flags go) and somehow conjurs a perverse sense of power and glory in my bones, I cannot help but want to vomit at the feet of this pathetic empire that adds yet more horror to the name homo sapiens. Helas, there are many more besides this one. In fact the last time I saw such an equivocal representation of glory and insanity was in the little Polish town of Oswiecim. The time before that was my guided tour of the ruins of ancient Rome.
Isn't it so pathetically human to aspire to be god only for those aspirations to end in ruins! And so as the great Roman Empire became dust and rubble so shall good ol' Uncle Sam. This picture is just to remind us that it has already begun. The sad question is: who will be up next for the takings?

I find my comment to be exactly what it is: A two dimensional set of characters on a page that will be turned unnoticed in the history of Empires.

That is an awesome picture, where did you get it? It is very symbolic for what our country has been going through since 9/11.

Thanks for the insight and for the pic!

Dara

You people are joking when you say this is a touching picture aren't you?

Reassure me please...
Dara
Well, this person in general thinks it is touching! The fireman and the soldier in solidarity, working together, yes, to me it is touching! That is the message I got from the picture!

Am I for war, nope...but being that it is happening, I feel I must support the soldiers :smile.gif

Love,
Dara, just a girl with an opinion! tongue.gif

Thank you Dara for your reply.
Not being American makes it difficult for me to fully understand people's sentiments towards this whole affair. Of course I recognize a tragedy for a tragedy such as the twin towers, but I wonder if you felt as emotional for the victims of the numerous IRA bombings over the years, or the recent attack in Bali, Indonesia, or the AUM group's sarin gas operation in the Tokyo subway?
You see, I have been fed on different versions of media than you and of course I come from a completely different social and moral background too. But to ascertain the extent of media influence in our perspectives of world affairs perhaps you would care to think a little further for a moment...
I was wondering whether you can you trace some of the sources that have affected your mind so as to feel touched by a picture like the one above? Is that possible?
Just a few words would suffice if you will. Of course this is open to anyone, and later on I will try and tell you how my view has been formulated.

Thanks.

Dara i stole this pic from another board i visit lol

i am not joking in the least when i say that this picture is touchign to me-

the fireman signifying the 9/11 attacks and all those who ran to help-from the firemen, policemen, President, right down to those who stood in lines for countless hours to donate blood.....passing the flag-or the duty of ensuring freedom-to the military-who now will do their best to help a country led by a down right evil man achieve peace and freedom, while at the same time helping us to sleep better at night knowing that this evil man is no longer in power

yes i do find it touching.......but that's my opinion  :)

"of course I come from a completely different social and moral background too"

Socially, I come form a famliy of insane, sadistic people. Growing up in a constant war, constant battle ALL my life, until I was able to move out of course, I have grown morally and ethically MUCH different then the average person. Is there an average person? I dont know that really. Anyhow, growing up as I did, as a prisoner, as a victim of violence and torture, I do believe it is each and everyones right as an individual and a human to have an opinion and beliefs of their own. That is what kept me alive, you see?  My beliefs about this picture come from my heart. I see a two VERY diffenent men. One  a fireman, one a soldier.I see a flag, I see them bonding together for a cause they have in common. As for other tragedies in the world, this picture didnt represent that to me, as I live here  in NY in the USA right where the attacks happened. SO, when I see an American flag, a fireman in rubble and a soldier, I think of 9/11. Now, you asked me if I feel the same about other deaths in the world, and perhaps if you get a picture like the one above which represents those injustices, then I can explain how I feel abut that.
Hope this clears things up a bit for you!

I am sorry side with Dara on this one and our new found member Chrissy! I found this pic to be very touching and symbolic It not only speaks of soldiers and Firemen but an entire nation in turmoil trying to stay rise about the adversity.... I am glad Chrissy posted it here! Thank you for this and letting us talk about it! However it is not a debatable thing! we are not talking about threr poeple dying in the world! and to ask us how we feel if other die in our world when we have not been affected first hand is unfair! Yes it saddens me that people in other countries are dying and suffering I am not a cold and heartless person I see the suffering I am a survivor in my own right as is Dara! but 9/11 affects us as a whole as a country as a nation and we see things differently because of that! We cried as a nation we and we learned to appreciate values and come together!! We are no longer seperated by social backgrounds or morals! We have learned that America has only one true color!!! I am apalled that you would refer to Americans as "you people"! and some of your other comments I found as rude and uncaring to say this pic is just a two dementional sketch that we go unnoticed is crude! We as a nation will never forget 9/11 The people in far were far from being just two demensional!  we each are an individual and should be adressed that way and as in 9/11 we are a surviving nation when your country gets brutally attacked and you display a touching pic like this you people will Have America in your corner as in every major disaster and catastrope in the world we were always there lending a helping hand so that says more for the American people then to just knock us down by adressing us this way!! Beside mayne one day your country will be sadly next in the takings! I am sorry to cut you down but please be more considerate with your future commments!! I t matters not if you are fom this country or if you had diffrent social background or moral background but we as human all have the positive choice of having a heart!

Love always,
Chrissy
Dara
I agree CHrissy!
We are all human and I think it would be unrealistic and inhumane to think that we could NOT feel something for alll the innocent people who were killed on 9/11.
It is like hearing that your neighbor got killed, and then someone asking you if you also feel bad for someone in another country who got killed. Well, sure, I am human and I feel bad for anyone getting killed, but PLEASE respect my sadness for my neighbor!

I hope that explains things a bit more clear!

Love,

Who is this Francis guy?!
Does he not have compassion for ALL tragedies?
Seems to me he might be influenced by his own media as well.
But I respect his opinion of course.
My view of this world is that your damned if you care and damned if you don't.
