Ok, This was Becky's idea and I figured I would run with it! Becky thought to start a new thread about "If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?"
So, let me say again! First, I would have to wait for +Steve to come here to NY, then we would go together to Germany to visit Silke and Alexander!
That is where I would go...
How about you?
Love, Dara

First, I would visit Scotland, Ireland, and Wales - the home of my ancestors. Then, I would visit Washington, D.C. because I am a devout Patriot of my country. Finally, I would visit the hallowed ground upon the Gettysburg battlefield in Pennsylvania. I am very passionate about the Civil War and that place in particular as it seems to be the setting for a recurring dream I had for a couple of years (and the inspiration for my poem "The Gift") posted in the Poetry topic. That's enough for me. How about the rest of you? I assume it's obvious where +Steven would go.
Your poetic friend,
Kevin

Well, being that I could go to more paces than one, I would love to visit Steven at the ol home in Orange! I would love to go sit by the fountain where he writes alot of poetry! Then we could go visit Silke and Alexander in Germany!
Sorry, +Steve, I kind of made your plans FOR you! Eh, what are little sisters for?

That sounds perfect to me, Dara. I'd love for you to visit me here at good ol' Studio Lance, and then I'd go home with you to Long Island, we'd go into the City, then on to Deutschland to visit Silke and Alexander. That would be wunderbar. Silke can't fly on planes, so it would be a good excuse for us to go abroad. Kevin! I wanted to tell you my daughter Maria has been to Gettysburg, and she found it really moving. We're Lutheran--Deutsche Evangelische--and there is a Lutheran Seminary right there, always has been, right there at Seminary Hill. Maria felt I would be right at home: hallowed history and lots of theology and metaphysics. Mach es gut, +Steve

If I could go anywhere? I would just HAVE to go to Germany first. Like I said before, I have a German lineage and it would be great to go there.
Second, I would have to visit Vietnam - specifically Bin Hua, South Vietnam. That's where my husband was born and so my children have a Vietnamese lineage (obviously) which makes that an important place to me.
Lastly, I would like to visit a small town in western NY. My grandmother still lives there and it is where my grandfather is buried. My grandfather was a retired veteran (disabled) of the United States Army and was buried with a special marker at his gravesite. It is so tranquil there and the best place to be for meditation - to gain peace of mind.
Those are the three places I would go if I could go anywhere.
Just me,
Becky

Heaven, if it exists.
Failing that, the Fannie Mae chocolate factory, which would certainly be the next best thing to heaven.

I want to go to Heaven too, but not just yet...
I thought Fannie Mae was a government loan program...
But chocolate can be very heavenly. I worry about the calories, but dream of it nonetheless.
So good to have you here with us, Lori, and for so many of us who have been friends on other sites to be together in one place again!

Steven,
Isn't it Sallie Mae that is the loan program?
LoL. Another good laugh - even if I'm wrong. I'm in such a good mood today that I almost can't stand myself!
Much love,
Becky

I won't be leaving on that one for another fifty years or so, but you're more than welcome to come with us, or us with you, as the case may be...
That Fannie Mae sounds fattening; something about the Fanny part... "Fannie Mae: better chocolate for a bigger butt."

Hey Hi-top! I have here an invitation to an ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) meeting and reception at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills on Tuesday the 18th. Who knows, Ozzy and his family might be there! I haven't been for a while, but I used to go all the time. The receptions are great! (Booze, booze, booze, but that's a bit of a secret... oops!) See, I'm actually a composer, and have been an ASCAP dual member, as Author and Composer, since slightly before Noah's flood, actually. Beverly Hills is great, but you've got to have an invitation to a party to really experience it properly. As an ASCAP member, I could take anybody I wanted. My ex-wife always grumbled about it, and didn't want to go! I was always being handed tapes by eager young artists. I felt like Simon on American Idol! Good times, good times...

"Fannie Mae" is the acronym for the Federal National Mortgage Association, a shareholder-owned corporation that underwrites mortgages. It's located in a HUGE building in my beloved hometown of Washington, DC.
"Sallie Mae" is the nickname for the SLM Corporation, which underwrites student loans. The company's located in Reston, VA, which also happens to be in my neighborhood.
Notice how the mega-tax-geek-CPA just happened to know all that info? This is the sort of stuff that fills my brain on a daily basis. "Lori's mind...the final frontier".

Of course, my earlier reference was to that wonderful manufacturer of chocolate delights, not to a mortgage company. The other, better Fannie Mae isn't located anywhere near my house. Where, oh where, is the justice in any of this?

Hey, Lori, thank God for the CPAs! As I mentioned once before to you in our private conversations, without you the world as we know it would come screeching to a halt in one business day! Without CPAs, we would all die of strangulation by the federal tax code! Yowza!

Well, come and see me then, by all means. Beverly Hills, Hollywood, everything, is just up the freeway. And they are always making movies in the Plaza here in Old Towne Orange. The latest is a feature with Ben Affleck and Christina Applegate with the working title of Surviving Christmas. It hasn't snowed here since 1949, but we had big drifts of snow downtown for the filming. And a house very near me is being used for the interiors. A friend of mine lives there. We have film crews here all the time. One never knows what season it's going to be in the Plaza! When the trees are bare and they're shooting spring or summer footage, they wire fake leaves to the branches of the trees! I grew up here like this, and it's just normal to me. My kids grew up watching filming, and my son wants to be a director; he's already filming all his friends and making his own movies. Very Blair Witch. Maybe he'll be famous someday, who knows? His name is the same as mine, so I guess I'll be famous too!
