This morning, my little hometown of Washington, DC woke up under another 6" or so of snow. About a week-and-a-half ago, we got deluged with about 2' over a couple of days. That first blast had almost melted away when more white stuff arrived for a visit.
What the heck's going on?!?! We're accustomed to extremely wimpy, unconvincing winters...it hadn't really snowed here in 7 years, since a big storm in 1996.
From what I see on the weather reports, though, this winter's been equally weird throughout the south and all up and down the eastern seaboard. Do you agree that this winter stopped being fun a long time ago, and are you really looking forward to spring's arrival?
It's so odd to watch otherwise intelligent and competent people dissolve in a snowstorm -- drive like lunatics, lack snow shovels, dress inadequately, etc. On the other hand, it's hilarious to see Callie, my sweet doggie, look confused when she goes outside and sees all the snow, but then start to frolic and play happily.

it's somewhat funny (and annoying) that many people, after digging out their cars from the snow, proceed to place little chairs and other items to protect (and claim) their parking space on the side of roads, even though it's all public property.

Angelroze,
I wondered where "down here" might be, so I just read your member profile. I see that you, too, are from WDC. Send me a private IM message, and we can swap notes.
Yours,
Lori

Dara,
I was confused...I guess I'd forgotten that you live on Long Island, and my brain substituted Upstate.
Are you from way out on Long Island, or do you live closer in? What I'm getting at here is, are you REALLY a Queens girl (with big hair, of course), trying to pass herself off as Hamptons? (Tee hee :D)
Love,
Lori

This is the year for the east coast I guess. The mid-west has actually had a fairly mild winter - in comparison to what the norm is. I think our coldest wind chill this winter was only about -15 or -20, when the norm would be -35 or -40. I am definitely NOT complaining about the "warmer" temperatures. It does seem, though, that as soon as the snow melts, we get some more; although we haven't been "dumped on" like years past.
Needless to say, I think we are all ready for spring, regarless of where we live. I am ready to see green in the landscape again.
Much love,
Becky

Lori,
Actually, I was born in Brooklyn, NY, which is real colse to Queens! I live right in the middle of LI, Suffolk County, which is less than an hour form the hamptons, which, BTW< I dont think is such a happening place, but maybe cause I live here and can go there whenever! I live an hour east of Manhattan and go there for concerts, shows, wacky bars, etc...
SOOOO, now you know whare I am on the map of LI! ;)

Dara,
About 20 years ago, the Hamptons were something very different and special. More recently, they've become so busy, overcrowded, and way too trendy.
I love Brooklyn! Will I see you tonight, on a downtown train? (My apologies to Mr. Tom Waits.)
Love,
Lori
