A thread to talk about internet addiction and it's tragic consequences  :)
Doug_E._Fresh
How does one determine if one is addicted?

hey Doug, Anne,

well I'm glad someone took up this thread.  In fact, I had concerns about the whole internet board, given that I was the only one posting on it for a while.

Anyway, about internet addiction, here's a list of tell-tale signs that I obtained from http://www.addictions.org/internet.htm :

1) Using the online services everyday without any skipping.
2) Loosing track of time after making a connection.
3) Goes out less and less.
4) Spending less and less time on meals at home or at work, and eats in front of the monitor.
5) Denying spending too much time on the Net.
6) Others complaining of your too much time in front of the monitor.
7) Checking on your mailbox too many times a day.
8) You think you have got the greatest web site in the world and dying to give people your URL.  (Oh NO!, that's MEEEEE!)
9) Loggin onto the Net while already busy at work.
10) Sneaking online when spouse or family members not at home, with a sense of relief.

Another site to check out, replete with a bunch of pie charts, is http://www.addictionrecov.org/wrkguide_www.htm

take care,
Shawn

Well, I do use the Net daily, but I never avoid going out so I can be online, so I guess I'm not in the danger zone...yet :-/ On the contrary, whenever possible I prefer to communicate with people face-to-face or at least on the phone, as opposed to email and chatting. I would recommend that all Web surfers do the same.
