"Music industry site hacked again"
http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/internet/01/2...reut/index.html
Ok, the title's a bit misleading, since actually it's the RIAA site that got taken offline by a DOS attack. Yeah!
For all of you who don't know, the RIAA is a bully who originally targeted file sharing companies, like Kazaa, but more recently started targeting individuals also. For example, you can imagine how indignant I became 2-3 weeks ago when these guys complained, to no effect, to my isp because I was using the file sharing program, Bearshare, to legally obtain copies of Adobe products!
Here's more from the above link:
"The RIAA has spearheaded an aggressive legal battle against KaZaA and other Internet "peer-to-peer" networks since they emerged three years ago.
The trade group shut down pioneer service Napster Inc. only to see successors proliferate; KaZaA claims its software has been downloaded 179 million times.
The RIAA has more recently begun to target individual users of song-swap services, incurring the wrath of music fans who view big record labels as a bully. "
...."the RIAA's Web site at (http://www.riaa.org) remained offline as FBI and Secret Service officials probed the source of the attack that has targeted the site since at least last Friday. "
"one RIAA official compared it to the targeted "denial of service" data blitzes that have occasionally overwhelmed prominent government and industry Web pages. "
LOL.
It's good to see ppl get what they deserve! You big corporations pick on individuals and you see the consequences! Maybe someday the RIAA will learn its lesson.
