Seriously, this site had me engrossed for over a week downloading hundreds of programs!  I still visit it regularly to check out the updates and new software.

I highly recomment PowerPro for Windows users, under the Freeware section and Power Users subsection at webattack.com

I checked out that site. It's quite cool, although I haven't actually managed to download anything as yet. My connection is quite slow at the moment.
One of my favourite places to download stuff is www.tucows.com

I have a list of freeware sites, though I have not checked to see if they are different to the list presented within this topic.

Can I suggest, that this list is REFERENCE information.
As such it could be better placed along with other similar items (ie. other reference material) in its OWN SECTION.
There would ideally be a need for some kind souls to be responsible for each such item which may accrue and refresh the data with updates and confirmations of currency, say on a monthly basis!!!!

Other such reference material could include :-

sites to be avoided ( I have about a thousand, thanks to 'fastnet'),

good programs to use,

links to other sites - though I think you already have these.

etc.
Best regards, Bill

I cannot extract the list I promised above, so I refer you instead to Freeware Arena, a site which itself hosts freeware.
Included on this site is a freeware 'book', currently at issue 8 which the site owner reissues on the 9th of each month. It is for downloading and is quite quick on a dial up.
This e-book, which is itself a browser, currently gives details (and can direct you to) 52 different freeware/shareware sites.
For each site, he lists the mix of software and whether there are ads or popups on site!
The URL is http://freewarearena.org/PHPNuke/index.php

Good hunting!

Best regards, Bill.

This one's a little different in that it's arranged alphabetically, but there really is a HUGE list. The best way to use it is to visit daily to look for new selections or (at weekends) picks from the database:

hello Ian,

thank you for the link to shellcity.   I must say, your freeware page at http://mysite.freeserve.com/padleywood/freeware.htm is very nice, concise, and powerful, and you should definitely be commended on it.  I'd recommend anyone interested in powerful windows freeware to take a look at it.

take care,
Shawn

Hi Shawn,

Glad you like my own offering on the freeware front! Just to clarify for potential visitors, this is only reviews of some of my personal freeware faves (with screenshots) rather than a download site; however, I have provided links for downloads for most of the programs featured. I really must make sure they all have one; something for the coming month, perhaps.  ;)

Best wishes,

Ian

I think this site beats them all. It may not look like much, but it's got it where it counts:

Some of my favorite download sites are http://camtech2000.net, www.webgrid.co.uk/index.html, and http://wantdbest.com.
