I don't know much about it either, but it sounds like JJ to me. Â You don't need to worry about getting banned here though, thanks be to God. Â Shawn will know the answer to your question better than anyone. Â I wonder if this is happening to anybody else?
I would ask Shawn about it. This could well be fallout from the VoicesNUT situation. After all that has happened there, anything is possible at this point. I haven't really gone to any other sites since all that huffing and puffing and banning, so I wouldn't know firsthand, but if this is happening to you it would surely be happening to me as well, since I am seen as the archenemy there. I find that strangely comforting somehow. It's an oddly yet delightfully refreshing compliment. I have an extremely defiant streak in my nature, and I enjoy all this immensely, seeing fools reveal themselves for what they are. Chrissy, we are definitely on the right side of this issue, and together here in the right place. Â

Shawn knows more about the Internet than anybody I know, and he will be able to get to the bottom of it. I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Perhaps Mr. Ban-Ban keeps a little list, and is passing it around. Down the rabbit hole and through the looking glass, it all gets curiouser and curiouser. I'm just glad I'm here, and you're here, and all our friends are gathering here in a safe place, on a free and open site.
Thank you, Shawn!

hello Chrissy,
I'm sorry you're having a bad week and hope it improves. Thank you Steve for the flattering remarks. I know a few things about the internet, and so I hope I'm of some help here.
If people have your IP and are banning you from sites, there are things you can do about it. Ok, since I'm pressed for time, let me just say what I think you should do. To get past the ban, get another ISP or internet connection in addition to the one you're using now, so that you can get an altogether different IP address. If you don't like that idea, then connect to the internet thru a proxy. What's a proxy? It's simply another server that all your internet connections get routed thru, so that people can't see your IP address but rather see the IP of the proxy. Some good proxies are Anonymizer and Primedius. I'll put up the url's later, though you can easily find them thru a google search. Anonymizer is free. Primedius has a slighter higher learning curve and you only get a free trial (though it's cheap to use), but it's better than Anonymizer.
Now a bad thing ppl can do if they have your IP is hack into your computer, so you should make sure you have a firewall installed and running on your computer. An excellent one is ZoneAlarm, which also has a free version, and i highly recommend you have this running on your computer. Again, i'll post the url later, but you can find them thru google. With a firewall running, you're practically immune against attack, and if anyone tries scanning your computer or doing anything 'bad' to your computer, then you can (usually) trace it back to them and get them in trouble.
hope this helps,
Shawn

Shawn, I haven't heard from Chrissy through e-mail for a couple of days. Could someone be intercepted the e-mail that I've been sending her? I'm still relatively new at computers.

no, James, it's very unlikely your email to her is being intercepted. It might be a problem with an email server, though. You might want to try IMing her when she's online.
take care,
Shawn

Hi,
I'm new to this site, and just reading some of the fantastic forums you have here.
I've had the message about someone having my web address many times. Anyone who knows how to get it can do so easily. I can ignore them because [as Shaun recommends] I have a software firewall installed.
The one I now use is 'Agnitum Outpost' (not the Pro version) which is free and came out best in recent independent tests.
It's also easier to use than all the others - even bought ones!
I also use 'ad-aware' - latest edition - to get rid of adware and some cookies- freeware.
I also use 'spybot' to get rid of cookies, diallers, and other nasties - freeware again!
I sleep peacefully because I am so tired of running software to get rid of things I don't want on my computer!!!
All the best, Bill.

It dont matter much if someone has your IP address unless Somehow they have hid a patch file in your computer but thats like rare
