Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut

On the surface this is a good quote.

But, when I think about it, I have no control over what I am saying when drunk, and I have no recollection of what I said when drunk, once I have become sober!

How do I learn to keep my mouth shut?

I agree.  But I think that the underlying notion regarding this quote is that the only way to stop doing foolish things, is to moderate that which CAUSES the foolishness.

As a friend once told me, if u fart too much, lay off the beans, pal!

Just remember....if you're gonna put your foot in your mouth, always have a packet of ketchup handy!!  It helps with the taste!!
