Only Love

I wonder as I blunder out here under whatever
This is these days which passes for the sky
And have been looking up for a long time but I never
Noticed how it seems to smile when asked why
This or why that or why anything I wonder about

It might as well look pleasant since at least for the present
There simply is no point explaining things
Which no matter how I figure I cannot figure out
But I had just never noticed before
How the universe appears to enjoy my questionings

An educational process is what this would appear
To be in the teachable moment of
The lotus of consciousness as it unfolds within me
And whatever else it is it is love
The sky and I might change but we are both smiling somehow

What was or will be however pleasant or unpleasant
Whatever this is which passes for now
Is as good a time as any to fall in love again
And if I fell already fall some more
Because when all this is over only love may remain

Though I hope as we grope toward togetherness
I would not presume to tell you what is true
But I love you and write these poems for you
And the love of love itself as nothing less
Than the best I can (which is all I can) be
