The Time of My Life
As I waited for the telephone to ring one day
All the while hoping the mail might bring me some good news
I realized it mattered nothing what they might say
My poems work for me (and I hope they work for you)
We each have an opinion but what matters is whose
Is the one I choose to care about and listen to
Chimpanzees comfort each other with hugs and kisses
I only wish we could be as kind as they would be
Stumbling alone through hits and staggering through misses
I guess I wish I were as kind as a chimpanzee
Because no one leaves here alive I was born to lose
I must just do it graciously whatever I do
Because no one comes here in vain I was born to win
Whatever I do I must just do it graciously
Now as I wait for the time of my life to begin
