Doin what comes naturally

I think that one of the most egregious informal fallacies we Americans are bombarded with is prescriptions camouflaged as descriptions. The value of education lay in its monetary value, GDP is an accurate measure of a nation’s accomplishment, the environment is not an issue in the Corporate bottom line, well-being is the Corporate bottom line, the Corporation is responsible only to their share holders, health care in America is the best, CEO pay is meritocracy in action, etc. These are all understood as descriptions of reality rather than being the prescriptions of those who profit by such things.

I am claiming that we are led to accept as truism that it is “natural” for education to be valued in dollars, a GDP growth of 4% is a measure of the nation’s well-being, Corporations are not responsible for the environment, CEOs get the big bucks because they are what make the institution successful, etc. That which is ‘natural’ is accepted without question. In such a milieu we easily accept the hurricane as a description of why the poor have lost everything in New Orleans. An examination will, I think, disclose that the poor were doomed to such a happening by the ordination of the powerful over past decades.

Describing the status quo as natural and universal is an effective means for maintaining the status quo. I am claiming that the status quo is described as natural and universal, when in fact the status quo is ordained by the “Wizard”. “Follow the money” is a useful tactic for discovering those who are the elements of the “Wizard”.

What is the logical consequence to our planet when the world economy must grow every year?
coberst
The logical consequence of an ever expanding economy is the consumption of the planet.
Joesus
So your belief is that economically there is nothing other than the planet to consume, trade or sell.
Isn't that a strange idea?

It's not a strange idea. Galactic Amalgamated Incorporated highly approves. There's great demand for consuming the planet.
Joesus
I think it's a strange idea to assume all economic growth is isolated to the consumption of the planet.

I do think it is entirely possible to recycle and make a decent living using renewable resources.
Consuming the planet is not a necessary requirement for economic welfare or growth.

I saw some videos on TV of people rummaging through the dump looking for food or something to sell. I have recently read of the coal mining operations that take off the top of mountains and leave behind a moonscape. If that is what you have in mind.
Joesus
No I was thinking bigger than that.
I was thinking as far as food goes it can be grown and harvested as it is needed without depleting the planet.
Transportation could be fueled by electric power and Hydrogen without eating up the planet.
Instead of using coal and fossil fuels one could make use of solar power and other alternatives.
Wood is a renewable resource, and so Forest management without the need to strip forests for exotic woods for the entertainment of the rich and their need for ornamental application is a viable enterprise.

There was man who had been utilizing certain gases not unlike freon to create electrical power by the heat that was created when it expanded from a liquid to a gas. All that he needed to cycle the refrigerent from its gas state to liquid was a cooling source such as running water.
He also found a way to run an engine on water. There is also the invention of Browns gas which produces water when burnt.
Some of these ideas have been stifled and inventors killed or imprisoned because they would destroy the planet eaters economic strategies.

Anyway I can see the reality of a planet that is educated above and beyond the need for greed, control and self destruction. A people who would think and live without being inspired by fear but by unity of being seems a real possibility.

I was thinking that to automatically think that death is inevitable for humanity and this planet when linked to the economy was a funny idea.

Why do you suppose people accept defeat and ignorance so readily and to believe raping the planet, starvation and death is the only reality? Why do you suppose people keep breeding when they can't even feed themselves?

Why would you accept the idea that economic growth can only be achieved by depleting the planet? Is this what you call critical thinking?
Is critical thinking when you look around you see the negative and forget any other possibility of options?

What you focus on grows......

I think that technology has seduced us into thinking that technology will take care of us despite all the foolish things we do to harm our self. We fail to realize that technology cares nothing about us. Our fate is in our hands even though we hate that thought.

Yes it is, and what's worse is people don't know how to change.
Speaking of technology as being an entity that can seduce us is not only ridiculous it is insane. We give our attention to distraction by choice, not by the power or hypnotic affects of inanimate objects or technological contraptions. Addictions are addictions of choice not of conscious manipulation by machines.

Someone will probably try to create a gene that is responsible for the addictions of technological masturbation.
