Full Version: How can i minimize the side effects from piracetam?
BrainMeta.com Forum > Enhancing Consciousness and Cognition > Cognitive Enhancers
Mr Bananas
I've been off piracetam now for over a week (was on for two weeks), i tried it the day before yesterday to see if it would relieve the somnolence i had because of my fever, but with no positive effects. I have read here that a choline giver should help the sleepyness that can occur, and i'm taking lecithin, but it doesnt seem to do much, i also read that magnesium can help, so i bought some magnesium pills yesterday.
The thing is that sleep problems seem so unusual in studies?
And what about this:
QUOTE
Although Piracetam is generally reported to have minimal or no side effects, it is interesting to note that Piracetam’s occasionally reported side effects of anxiety, insomnia, agitation, irritability and tremor (18) are identical to the symptoms of excess acetylcholine/glutamate neuroactivity.

From: http://www.smart-drugs.com/ias-piracetam.htm
Excess acetylcholine/glutamat activity? It seems to contradict the other hypothesis that choline supplements relieve sleepyness?
I want it to work but it seems my body wont react any better to it right now. Is there anything i can do?

what does ur dosage look like
Mr Bananas
It varies, mostly i take 1/4 of a teaspoon (about 700mg) twice a day, some times only 1/8tsp the second time, some times only 1/8tsp. Once i took a second attack dose just to see what would happen, so i dont take huge doses.

The effective human dosage is usually 4.8-9.6 grams daily.

Does it make sense that a higher dose would give less side effects?

I'm a little confused as to what the side effects you are experiece are...is it drowsiness or the inabillity to sleep?

I get cloudy in the mind, i get somnolence, insomnia and bad sleep (i wake up several times).

I experience somnolence and a bit of brain fog from my regimin occationally, but I think I'm too sleep deprived to get the insomnia or bad sleep.

I've been on a piracetam 2.4g, lecithin 3 liquid caps, oxiracetam .8g, dmae 1.6g regemin. all taken upon waking up. I usually feel great for about 5 hours and then want a nap or caffene. I should probably split these up into doses, but anyway...

I think adding the dmae helped me a bit with some of the side effects.

I'm also considering dropping the lecithin for a different choline source once this bottle runs out.

Most side effects if any from racetams usual go away withnin a few days to a few weeks.

Piracetam is best taken 3-4 times throughout the day.

Actually yes if the dosage is spaced out properly your body can become accustomed to it faster.

Aside from that taking Alpha GPC 600-1,200 mg will also help.

There is a chance as I stated prior you have something else going on however it will take time to determine that.

I would strongly recommend dropping lecithin and considering centrophenoxine rather than DMAE.

would the centrophenoxine be enough choline by itself?

In most cases yes.
