OLE MEPH:
A sales pitch? Did you read my post at all? I said I can focus a LITTLE BETTER and had an initial increase in SHORT TERM MEMORY. I'm not claiming miracles here, and there is plenty of evidence on these particular supplements that support what I'm saying. Just as there is plenty of evidence that a good diet can increase the effectiveness of your immune system or coffee can make you feel more awake. I wasn't claiming to walk on water here?
Do rational, intelligent people make statements of ignorance? Don't preach if you don't actually know anything about it.
LIFEMIRAGE:
Thanks as always buddy, I appreciate your help!

QUOTE(themaskcabana @ Aug 31, 2008, 03:15 PM)

I'm back and I have successfully been taking regiment for 6 months... This is what I feel so far.
1. Brain feels more awake and energetic.
2. I felt an initial increase in short term memory, but it really has tapered off. It seems like I still forget little things. How to spell simple words, or recall a conversation I just had. Not huge, but very noticeable to me and sometimes to others.
3. I can focus a little better, but I still have problems. I have to constantly re-evaluate what it is I'm doing so I can stay on task.
4. Confidence level is mediocre, a little better than it was. I’m still not necessarily the most talkative person in the world when it comes to groups.
Restated Regiment:
- Huperzine 100mcg x2 Daily
- Pyritinol 800-1000mg Daily
- Centrophenoxine 500mg x1 Daily
- Idebenone 180mg x1 Daily
- Ginkgo 120mg x1 Daily
- multi-vitamin x1 Daily
- amino acids x1 Daily
- digestive enzymes x1 Daily
- couple of cups of coffee Daily
Questions:
1. I’m thinking about adding some piracetam and aniracetam, any comments?
2. Based on my results, any other suggestions? Especially for short term memory and long term memory. That’s where my biggest gripe is, and maybe just to maintain the overall health of my mind.
3. Do you think the mix of the coffee is good or bad? I’ve never tried it without coffee because I have always drank it.
Thanks lifemirage in advance! You the man!
Double your dose of L-Huperzine A and I would consider adding in some Aniracetam which can help you with your word flow issue.
Organic coffee can be helpful in moderation.
Is it my imagination, or is someone selling dreams here. I get a strong smell of a sales pitch in some of these posts. Do rational, intelligent people actually believe this stuff?
Yes, I did read what you had to say, and yes, I have researched cognitive enhancement and related topics. My conclusion is that there is a huge industry out there, promoting a variety of products that are supposed to enhance human function, improve health, prevent or cure disease and similar things. Except for scientifically proven compounds that have passed FDA standards I have zero faith in their claims. The claims for these products is no different than the thousands of claims, over history, for plants, herbs, tonics, rituals, etc. designed to make human life better. In short, IMHO, it is modern day witchcraft and Voodoo.
I kind of disagree on a couple of things.
The FDA is more concerned with patentable drugs like Deprenyl & Paxyl than single compounds to boost memory. They can't possibly oversee studies for everything.
Look up L-tryptophan, and the involvement the FDA had in banning it.
Took them over a decade to lift the ban on something that has been proven safe and has been safely synthesized over a century.
Vioxx is another example of when the agency does things right, but late. It took quite a few red flags for the agency to take notice. i,e an internal memo that read "may cause an increase in blood clot side effects."
To play devil's advocate, and I don't mean to be condescending, a lot of people are looking for insta-miracles on these boards. I understand your reaction to a lot of these posters.
I've taken enough nootropics to feel positive and some negative effects from them. I can't make the same claims other posters make, but it's no placebo either. We're not dealing with psycho-active compounds here. There's no black & white effect. (Although I once took too much deprenyl thinking it was placebo. Boy was that stupid..)
If you however felt no effects/benefits from them, then perhaps you should give us details. What were your sources, what was your regimen, and so on.
