Hi all,

I started to get intersting in light&sound machines which are suppose to help their user to change
his brain wav speed in order to get into deeper modes like theta of delta (or alpha for beginnger - (: )

I wonder how good are those machine in the market today?
And what is the amont of confidence and faith you can invest on buying one of them and really believe you
are gonna achive theta or delta modes with there help?

(The machines I saw all over the internet cost like between: 100-400$)

Best regards all,

You might be interested in checking out a program called "Brain Wave Generator." It's free to download, has a lot of preloaded binaural beats, allows one to create their own, and can produce a light flashing screen.

Basically it does everything the machines your looking at does, but costs nothing.

Thank you very much man.

But there are only sounds on the program. Do I need to buy somethings like special glasses for LIGHTS?

Sorry there are lights! great program... seems to be...
But I think special glasses are needed in order to make a better job - What do you think?

Yes they are needed. You can find instructions on how to build them on the internet or buy them fairly cheap.

No. If you play with the program and change the settings it will flash colors from your screen. Each binaural has a preset; you just need to turn the visuals on. It can also run the visuals in a window instead of full-screen.
IMHO, the visual for these types of machines/programs are overrated. It would probably be better to be immersed in a soak tank (sensory dep. chamber). What are you specifically looking to accomplish?

If you get audacity, another free download, it will allow you to modify and add to the binaurals. Of course, you would need to get the activation code for your bwgen program. I know it's easy to find the code for free through
astalavista or something if your broke, although I would buy it if possible. The program is cheap compared to the machines that are doing the same thing, so I'd rather support whoever wrote the program.

Once your bwgen program is activated, you can export your selected beat as an mp3. Then use audacity to make it more listenable. I use it for polyphasic sleep. Basically, you take 15-20 minutes of sleep induction, put it in audacity, then peg on a minute or so of a binaural that is good for waking up. Then add some nasty alarm type of stuff after that to guarantee that you will wake up. One could easily add different drum beats or sound overlays to something like a "learning state" binaural. For meditation, just overlay some tibetan singing bowls or chirping birds or something. It just makes it alot nicer. If anyone is interested, I could probably put some mp3's up for download.

Ooh. And you know that you need to be using headphones for binaurals to work right? It has different sounds
on each channel.

First of all you need the headphones in order for the binaural beats to work. If you look in the options section, you will find the option to turn on audiostrobe for binaurals. The reason why audiostrobe is good to use is because it causes temporary sensory deprivation - resulting in a much easier way to enter into the alpha state.

I was reading several studies done on this a long time ago, they were done under lab conditions. Basically regular flashing lights, while somewhat effective, are not nearly as effective as the audiostrobe.

Hi thx all for the answers!

And say: Does really listening to the sound from the headphones is needed? concentrationg on it?
Or just hearing it even as a background to other thing you do while putting the headphones does the job of changing the brain waves?

You need to be relaxed when using binaural beats in order for them to be effective. What happens is two frequencies are heard by your ears (one frequency per ear) and the combination of these two frequencies results in a third frequency which cannot be heard by human ears.

Your ears cannot hear under 100hz, however the brain operates in frequencies under 100hz, so listening to normal frequencies doesn't really have an effect on brain states.

When you listen to say 425 hz and 450hz, the result is a third frequency at 25hz which can be heard within your head. It pretty much sounds like there is a sound coming from an indistinct location somewhere inside your head.

You don't really need to concentrate on it, you can do other work while listening to the frequencies. However I do recommend you are relaxed when listening to them.
Mr Bananas
I have some "white noise" sounds somewhere on a harddrive laying around, i have tried listening to them but im too sceptic, but are you claiming it really works? If one is in a relaxed state?
