Nice report. I would expect that research into psychedelics and entheogens would continue to open new ideas into the altered states of the mind.
I find it a big stretch to include altered states as enlightened states of consciousness, especially when no enlightened state of consciousness is established as a drug induced state of euphoria maintained and supported by chemical enhancement.

I suppose the idea of enlightenment by prescription is not too far fetched for some of the believers in the idea that God created psychedelics for Gods children as the doorway to God vision, but then you might say God created death as a natural doorway too. I personally don't believe either one of those ideas is a viable approach to stable awareness of reality, but rather temporary distractions from the rut people create in limited vision and awareness of the pure potential that exists in the present universe and its mechanics.
The new agey thing is pretty consistent with the hopes and dreams for a better universe or at least a better world order more consistent with love, and expansion of love rather than the neglect and ignorance of the mental conditioning that perpetuates victim consciousness or the dogmatic belief in some higher power that must come rescue the weak and righteous from the wicked and the evil powers that be.
I believe there will always be a follower for every idea of relative truth, because man must know through experience how he participates in creating illusions from reality.
