I have been thinking about writing this for a long long time, so I finally opted to do it, since the last time I wrote something like this, I have had many new philosophical thoughts and ideas, this is a contemplation of those thoughts.

Prehaps by first asking the most common question in philosophy, we can gain better insight into our own world. Some of the earlier parts of the treatise cover things that you may have already discussed with me, if you are one of those people, simply skim through or skip part one.

Part One Life and Truth

What is the meaning of life?

To answer this, we must consider that perception and perspective plays a great deal of influence in what we perceive as the meaning of life. By this I mean that different individuals can draw different conclusions from the same question. So what is the meaning of life? Whatever you want it to be! This is the only real answer that one can provide. How can one person, claim that they're proposed meaning to life is greater or "more correct" then someone elses?

The answer is, you cant. Thats the problem, no one can prove that one theory as to the purpose behind life is more or less right then any other theory. Sure, science may seem correct to some in regards to the theory that there is no meaning and that life is simply a random chemical reaction. However, the first problem is - is this a true random event? I think not, considering all the requirements for an organic life form to develop. Secondly, what if this world is just a dream? What if its a computer simulation? Just as how we simulate life on our computers, perhaps someone else has simulated life on their computers. Thus our meaning to life could be to be studied by scientists trying to learn more about life.

So you see, no matter which conclusion you draw, none of them can really be proven as more or less right than any other conclusion. Thus the paradox. What do we do when we face philosophical paradoxes? Fall back on perception because if there are two opposing perceptions of the same thing. Say one person believes an apple is green and another believes it is red. Who is right?

Well, you can't really prove that either one is right. You can have multiple people with the same perception agree that the apple is green but as we all know, just because a lot of people believe in something, doesn't mean its true.

So truth, in the form of absolute truths - is non-existent. How or why is this so? Because truth as we know it is different from truth as other people know it. Since we are trapped in our own perceptions and cannot objectively view reality, we cannot draw unchanging fundamental truths from it. Perception changes and it is our perception which decides our truths thus the reason why eternal truths do not exist. Some people may believe that they know of a absolute truth and believe it so be so. I ask them, where is your proof of this? How can you prove something to be eternally true if you cannot objectively view reality outside of your own perception.

It is a difficult thing for people to accept a lack of eternal truths. They like to have rules in reality because it gives them a firm ground off of which to base their ideas. I am not saying that it is a negative thing to have truths, only that those truths would change with the passage of time.

Part Two Existence and Significance

Now let us move on, because we cannot come to a strong conclusion of what truth or reality really is, there is no proof for one argument to be considered more likely then the other. The only practical conclusion on reality is science.

I once heard a very interesting statement made about philosophy. He said, the only real philosophical question you have to ask yourself is whether or not to commit suicide. What if this is true? I mean, does philosophy matter? I suppose this is like asking if art matters or if music matters, they are not practical things - they are meant for our enjoyment. One must also wonder, what is life? Will we ever live beyond this life as we know it? I suppose theres no absolute way of figuring this out, science says that we do not. Perhaps this is not such a bad philosophy to have?

If you only live once, instead of wasting away doing whatever gods work you praise. You can be living life to the fullest, enjoying every moment, every breath. This also poses the question of, what is the significance of anything? I suppose we must fall back on perception for this answer. What is the significance of anything at all? Is what we do today, what we argue about, what we ponder about - does it have any real meaning, does it have any significance? If so, what is the significance?

I am beginning to think, to many hours are wasted on insignificant things. Let us look at the forum for the perfect example. Sometimes we bicker and fight about the stupidest things for one to waste a great deal of time on. I mean honestly, some of the topics we fight about are just plain silly. Yet, other times we have such indepth and productive discussions, I do wonder what has happened to BrainMeta lately, it seems we are having less of those wonderful discussions and more of those insignificant fights.

So what should we do, what great purpose do we have? Is there really any purpose to the things we do. I think there may be, if we give the things we do purpose, if we define them with something of significance, then I believe it has purpose. So much of our time, of societies time, is spent wasting away. Either we sit in front of a television, watching the hours go by as we try to forget the hardships of the day or we sleep, resting from the last purposeless day and getting ready for the next. Of course at times one feels purpose, like when involved in science, such as doing experiments in hope of creating something to make the world a better place.

So I ask you, what is your purpose? Why do you feel you should exist and what are you going to do, with that existence.

Why do you get up in the morning, what drives you to do something? Is there something that you wish to do but have never done? Something you regret? Well I say this! We have no certainty if we will live to see the next day, there is no promise that we will find ourselves an afterlife. So live now, do the things you want to do, because you only live once. Tomorrow, is never guaranteed.

Part Three Purpose

So we know that purpose is decided by what we give purpose to. In other words, purpose exists in our minds. You know so many people take their existence for granted. They believe they are entitled to it, but I think it is a great gift and one which most people waste. Not all, but a great many people do. Im not saying that I have spent all my time doing things of great meaning either, I have been just as guilty of wasting time on things which I do not really care about.

We are all connected, if it is true as science as theorized, we are simply the assembly of different elements into an extremely complex molecule. Thus were no different from the ground we walk upon except we have the ability to perceive that ground and the fact that we can cause movement by will. I mean it is rather remarkable, that we can cause the cells in our body to move by willing it, I think that in itself is very interesting. Now that we have concluded that our existence is precious and not to be wasted, what is it that really counts.

I mean, what really matters to you?

I think as people, we are trained to be contempt with not living out dreams or ambitions long forgot, because those at the top of society strive because we refuse to chase our dreams and ambitions. Most people are not satisfied where they are, from here there are three options.

A. You change your reality to something you are satisfied with
B. You learn to be contempt with where you are, learn to be satisfied with what you have
C. You go on in misery, wishing you were somewhere else, someone else. But you never get there

No one can make the choice for you. Maybe you are already happy where you are? Personally, I have many things I wish to do but have not yet done.

So, where does philosophy fall into all of this? Perhaps the most important thing is to not worry about if there is a god or not or what reality is. Maybe, just maybe, the most important thing is deciding what you want to do in life and going after that goal with unrelenting passion. It doesn't matter who is "the next american idol" or whom is going to win the academy awards. The important things revolve directly around you. Humans can be selfish at times, because in part that selfishness is a survival mechanism.

So I say, lets focus on a little more practical philosophy? Purpose, meaning, importance, are all things decided by your own mind. So, my thoughts are that the best way to go about building your own philosophy towards life is to think of those things which are most important to you and then build your philosophy about life off of that foundation.

Part Four Consciousness

Knowing that humans are selfish at times, in order to survive - I would like to expand upon this idea. What is the reason for your mind? Lets look at this ideal from a scientific standpoint. The mind, was created to give motion and movement to the body. Quite simply, in the beginning there existed a communication network between cells, designed to allow the cells in your body to co-ordinate and co-operate with each other. In some ways its similar to how the internet works.

Now over time, your body and mind had evolved into what we now know today. The mind was really a complex network of signals, until it evolved into something much more complex. We know nature is efficient and she does not do things needlessly. So if we have some evolutionary trait, it is probably because at one time it was essential to our survival. This is naturally fairly obvious, but in it lies something not so obvious. The conscious mind, is in fact a evolutionary trait, designed to increase our chances of survival. What exactly does this conscious mind of ours do? Well its functions are rather simple but require immensely complex networks to perform them.

I believe that the main purpose of the conscious mind is to interpret the world in which we live in and to recognize threats to the body. The conscious mind is able to actively perceive reality and come to conclusions about that reality. I think this is why humans are in part dominating the world today, we are simply much better at interpreting the world around us and finding competitive advantages from those interpretations. The second part of the purpose behind the conscious mind, is to protect the sub-conscious mind. The sub-conscious is more or less responsible for 95% of what goes on. It handles all the signals coming in and it sends any necessary signals back out. The unfortunate thing about the sub-conscious is it can be influenced by external forces.

This means a variety of things. One good example is the sub-conscious developing negative or destructive habits to the bodies survival instincts. The conscious mind can end these destructive habits leading to a better chance of survival.

Part Five Consciousness And Cellular Life

What is the origins of consciousness? Do we as conscious beings have a specific purpose to fulfill for which we were created via god or by genetic variation?

Second, are we truly conscious or do we just have the perception of consciousness? If say you are in a coma and are simply dreaming up an alternate world with which to keep your conscious mind active - are you conscious or unconscious?

From the perspective of those viewing your body in a coma, you are unconscious, yet - from your perspective you are conscious. So which is it? The problem is there is no way to verify whether or not you are really conscious or if you are actually unconscious. Perhaps you are a different being altogether, or you could be a computer program, would you then be conscious and truly self aware or just living in the illusion of self-awareness?

Now let us examine for a moment the current scientific knowledge regarding cellular life. Life, as we know it, is comprised of trillions of cells. We are made up of those cells. Thus you have to ask yourself, are you an actual being or simply the sum of other beings? I suppose this question is a bit like asking if a car is really a car or simply the sum of all of its mechanical parts. The difficulty in our situation lies in the fact that each and every one of those cells is an individual living organism.

So we see not simply a series of mechanical parts but a vast society of living organisms each fulfilling a specialized task. Now here is where things get interesting. If we are the sum of trillions of other beings and the individual organisms are not even aware that they are a part of this larger group - then does this mean that they have in reality created a consciousness singularity?

If all cells contain some form of interpreting the reality around them, then perhaps they have some limited form of consciousness. If this is true then what we really are - is the end result of a consciousness singularity.

Now furthermore, what if we comprise a conscious being that is so large and so vast that we cannot even fathom its size. What if we have already created a higher level of a consciousness singularity but are simply not aware of it - due to its utterly vast size?

What if we are not only the sum of many smaller lifeforms working together, but also - create something larger involuntarily that some might refer to as 'god'. In fact, I wonder if the cells in our body - if they ever had any inkling as to what they are a part of, if they might think of us as god. What if we unknowingly create a super consciousness being to which some refer to as god that is just so vast and so large that we cannot observe it?

What if we are living inside another living organism, just as cells are living inside of us?
