There are some studies (curious about their origin and funding) that a glass of wine a day can help with general health and in keeping our blood pressure down. Perhaps in extreme moderation alcohol can be beneficial to the brain's health, but overall, alcohol is not the best friend of the brain.

The studies I have read involve red wine, which would attribute the benefits to reservatol I believe.

The benefits of wine come from resveratrol and its effects on the SIRT1 gene, and have little to do with alcohol itself.

If you want to boost your longevity this way, it would be more wise to get your resveratrol form supplements rather than wine, as you would have to drink a bucket each day of the latter to get a significant boost.

EDIT: Heh, beat me to it!

Curious, what does the SIRT1 gene code for?
Rick
Or you could just eat grapes. The resveratrol is in the grape skins. That's why red wine has it: it's fermented with the skins.
