Full Version: Beginner's questions on EBS

I am new to the field of neuroscience, and am currently reading some research on electronic brain stimulation by James Olds.

My two questions are:
First of all, where is the brain's pleasure centre located? Is it the same in all animals, or does every species have a different location for it? I read that olds had a map for the brain, but I couldn't find it on my own. If anyone has a link to something similar I would appreciate it.

And seceondly, the most confusing part for me is how does one go about inserting an electron into the brain? I'm doubt that you can just stuff a wire into the head and expect it to work. Can anyone explain the procedure in detail or point me where I can find more information?

Thanks in advance and sorry if teh questions were too simple or posted in the wrong place.

the pleasure centers are in the ventral tegmental area, medial forebrain bundle, septal area, striosomes, and a few other areas that you can dig up on Pubmed. They are, more or less, the same across species.

You would use stimulating electrodes to stimulate these regions. Again, you can use Pubmed to dig up the relevant references and read the Methods section of the papers for the details.
