Our Lions of Light



gremlins mean to haunt us every day
they form unsuspecting sleep into nightmares
stealing our peace as well as our breath
choking us with recreant grasps
and with fainthearted aims fall in our backs

these creatures feed themselves
with our frustrated nerves
licking the blood of tears
forever riling our fears

then dwell on nobility my friend
toning up many courageous spirits
their vitality is our honest valor
honorable ways in truth and candour

hold fast to this living dignity
the bold lions magic golden skin
doesn't feel mosquitos attempts to prick
know when you're drifting to the other lands
I am with you holding your hand

You just read this to me at the best possible moment; I had just turned out the light, but then you turned it on again.

I came out here then to read it for myself, and to thank you, and I found Fred curled up tightly in my computer chair, purring; I guess he likes your poem too. But not as much as I do, because he didn't hear you read it, as I did.

May all your birds and bunnies transform someday to jolly tea companions, as Freddie Noodles often does, and may they raise their cups to you, and kiss you lightly on your golden cheeks in thankfulness, even as I do, tonight.
