Jelly, cast off your crutches and show us you can walk on your own two feet!

lol i think this is the second time you have told me that... smile.gif
it isn't going to work...because I see no crutches...only stepping stones to make me a better person happy.gif
Hudzon
I remember back when I used to be a follower of God. I was raised in a Christian family (the "do as I say not as I do" kind) so I followed the Christian ideals for quite some time.

However, it all changed when I found out about Nietzsche. (Gradually, of course, but even now I can distinctly remember how my religious zeal eroded overtime).

The main idea I took out of his work, is that it doesn't matter whether God exists or not. In fact, even if God exists exactly as Christians described him then it's only more of a reason to actually follow Nietzsche's philosophy.

The thing about the Ubermensch is that you're supposed to rely on yourself, not on some mystic deity to fix your problems and make you happy. If we were "made into his image" then why should we sheepishly wait until the afterlife to be granted permanent happiness in heaven, when we can create heaven right here and now on our own?

Because if God is a "father" like the Christians say, then as any parent he would only be happy to see us think for ourselves instead of running to him every time we get a finger cut.

Besides, what would your parents think if you were 40 years old, had a wife and 3 children and still relied on them as your only source of income?

So that's how my trail of thought went that day, when I took off my cross and told God that, yes, I never doubted that you exist, but I'll rather think for myself from now on.

One day I want to meet him in person and say "Hey, this is my sketch for Humanity. What do you think about this part here...?"

Hudzon, if more Christians thought like that, the world would be a much better place. Maybe instead of slipping bibles into hotel rooms, someone should start slipping "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" (Kaufmann's translation) instead, or start evangelical Nietzsche churches across the globe. I think part of the reservation of many Christians towards Nietzsche is that he explicitly places himself diametrically opposite to Jesus, and this in itself will act as a turnoff to Christians. However, I think Nietzsche's thoughts will resonate will almost anyone, so that any person who takes the time to read and understand his work will come away grateful and a better person for it.

Prove to me that god exists and I'll eat my hat. wacko.gif
HH, does existence exists? How would one go about proving that it does?
Flex
I think therefore I am. Now thinking does not necessarily prove that YOU exist, but it proves that something exists. Perception implies that something is perceived and thus exists.
Lindsay
Sounds good to me, Flex.
