The Mirror and the Window

As much as we need to remember
We also need to forget
Or else in the chill of November
Things are unforgotten yet
Things which weigh upon us heavily

Unforgiven unforgotten
Things ferment and end up rotten
Such is the burden of memory
To trap us in the mirror
Poisoning both heart and history

Forgetting brings things clearer
Forgiveness is the window
To let in the light below
So that in the end at last we see
This is the freedom of clarity
