Fast Cars and Slow-Walking Men
On this second day of my newfound health
Having at last hacked my way through the flu
I remain outdoors and observe by stealth
The comings and goings of those who do
More driving around than anyone need
Most at that surge-ahead-fall-behind speed
Of impatience punctuated by rage
Where underneath the rage it seems like fear
Automotive battle or pilgrimage?
Pedestrians have to be careful here
Man-on-the-street pedestrian am I
A little slow in the crosswalk maybe
But grateful under this graceful spring sky
I hope we get where we were going to
All of us fast cars and slow-walking men
All going the same way ultimately
And then when all of our dreams have come true
I will look forward to seeing you then
