At Last

At last I have recovered from the flu
And am out enjoying a flu-free day
At least for today thank God and thank you
Until another virus comes my way

Spring has already sprung here where I live
Sprung all the way to summer so they say
Where a bright blue sky seems pleased to forgive
My sentence of sickness from a hard fall
And a winter I would rather forget

Days like today seem to justify all
The randomness and the absurdity
Of problems too big and of hope too small
The problems look smaller today to me
As hope in spite of everything looks up

Although all I have is this poetry
Life leaves some shiny pennies in my cup
Apparently I am not finished yet
At least for today thank God and thank you

At last I have recovered from the flu
