Welcome, lcsglvr! I did my basic studies in philosophy/psychology in the class of '51. Then I went on to study the theologies, including studies in the philosophies/psychologies of religion.

But seriously, while you are at it, check out the mother of psychology, pneumatology (study of healthy spirituality)--the philosophy out of which the psychologies--and there are more than one--grew.

The early children of pneumatology/psychology (Wilhelm Wundt, J.B. Watson, Freud), influenced by the impact of materialism, rebelled against metaphysics.

However, there were some children (e.g., William James, Carl Jung, and even Wundt, in his latter years, who went beyond materialism). Interestingly, Wundt and Jung were the sons of clergy and James was from a very religious/metaphysical family. Here is a very interesting bio of Wm. James

James, it seems to mem was an advocate of holism before we even thought of the concept.

BEWARE OF THAT WHICH DIVIDES US--It is diabolic
Personally, I am an advocate of holism. I am very much in favour of finding ways to integrate the materialisms, the intellectualisms and spiritualisms.
If I can be of help in your studies, let me know.
