Regret

The unfinished pyramid inverted
Teeters on its small top without the eye
Which closed then left when light was subverted

A nation upside down sees earth for sky
As everything becomes absurdity
Perversion itself becomes perverted
And freedom becomes a new slavery
If tomorrow comes history's pages
Will turn to new orders of the ages

If ever any hope slides down to me
I wonder how to know how to believe
And if such things as hope can ever be
Expected as to when we might receive
Some rising spark some faint encouragement
Or maybe just tell us where the light went

The unfinished pyramid inverted
Teeters on its small top without the eye
Which closed then left when light was subverted

Regret (and "how could this happen?" and "why?")
