I have 'upgraded' to IE7 and now find that there is no way to drop back to IE6!!
Joesus
You should be able to go into the contol panel and click onto add and delete programs to remove the upgrade, reverting back to IE6.
I was having problems with some programs conflicting with each other and my computer locking up. Reverting back to IE6 solved all the problems.

Is anyone in a hurry to get Vista? Back away from the bleeding edge....
Joesus
Not in a Hurry, but will be getting a free upgrade to Vista Home Premium.
The guy who just finished building my computer has been running Vista for the last 5 months and tells me there won't be any problems with my current system.

Many thanks re getting rid of IE7 joesus!

Unfortunately it didn't work, though it did remove iexplorer from the add/remove list.
However, you inspired me to try a bit harder !!
I had to perform a more cunning tactic (renaming ie7 in the dll cache and then in the ie7 directory. I was then able to delete IE7 and lo' and behold IE6 became available again)!!
I will try to post this elsewhere on the web because I am aware that many other people are in the same boat and trying all sorts of things to get rid of IE7.

That add/remove service in the control panel is just about worthless. Like you said, it just removes it from the list, it doesn't actually remove the program in many cases. Not only that but many programs on my computer aren't even listed. I happen to think anything from microsoft is garbage. If I was more computer savvy I'd go to linux.

The hardest program to get rid of I ever came across was "spy sheriff" which is a malware program. Removing it does nothing, renaming it does nothing. It's in the registry and once it's removed or disabled it simply restores itself. I had to download a special program and follow a procedure someone had worked out. You restart the computer in safe mode and finally get rid of the nasty malware.

Simple switch over to Firefox or even better Opera and forget IE. They are both faster and a less vulnerable than IE7.
I have IE7 installed on my PC but i use it rarely.

I could never go back to IE after using Firefox

I have to admit that my favourite is Opera 8.542.
(Opera 9 is a small step backwards for my use).

In particular, I appreciate built-in POP email within a structure, and the ability to store notes in 'directories'. It's weakness lies in updating and transferring data. (no problem now that I am stuck with v8).

Firefox rules. I am so used to their superior bookmarks manager, searchable bookmarks, being able to launch folders of bookmarks as separate tabs, "quick search" bookmarks (which let's me run customized queries through the address bar; for example, 'g browser' uses Google to search for 'browser', whereas 'p brain' uses Pubmed to search for 'brain'), and using my scroll wheel to scroll through open tabs, that every other browser falls way short, including Opera. After Firefox, K-meleon is very good (only on Windows), uses Mozilla, and is very fast (faster than Opera even) but lacks all the functionality of FF. Then Opera. And then the IE-based shells, like MyIE and AvantBrowser. And dead last, IE, which is such a poor browser that it's doomed to be overtaken by FF. IE7 is the worst of the bunch as this browser seems very bloated, buggy, and takes a long time to start-up.

IE is dead on the Mac, but the Mac is on the up! So I use Safari and its close copy Firefox. I have to admit I use lots of supplementary programs to enhance Safari. Whatever the version of IE, I'll leave it for the algae!
