Sinus Sonnet: An Independent Nose

Deeply determined it has to be free
My nose confronts me with a loss of face
It misbehaves and embarrasses me
Sneezing then running all over the place
Making up its mind independently

Attached as we are I have to give chase
Persuade it to perch with the dignity
Of gentle hypo-allergenic grace
Pointing out the path of civility
But carrying a hanky just in case

Out where the starry-eyed winter wind blows
In where the kind furnace makes my cat purr
Some things stay as true as they always were
Some of us sport an independent nose
