Full Version: Any input on Designer Whey?

Designer Whey is just a brand of whey, but they report that through their special peptide transport system, their whey is basically better than everyone else's. Its all unverified and unpublished. Anyone have anything to say about this? ...oh, and Designer Whey is a lot more expensive!

the board software wouldn't allow me to post urls, but you can google for company website and wikipedia article.

I would recommend http://wellements.com/prorated.asp if you're looking to add additional protein to your diet. It is cost effective. Why waste your money on a brand name or unverified claims?

btw, you can post links after making something like 10 posts:

To add protien to your diet, I suggest skim milk and egg whites. Both are cost effective, taste better, and have other beneficial nutrients~

cool thanks for the info, I'm also looking for a good source for Resveratrol and Piracetam.

a company called Pure Encapsulations has a product called Resveratrol EXTRA which has 100 mg trans-resveratrol per capsule combined with grape seed extract and red wine polyphenols. I was going to go with that from an online store. maybe someone could pm me a better source and/or a source for the pira.

all help is appreciated, kudos to everyone who has made this forum what it is. I u/s the tremendous effort, I'm still digging through it all. wink.gif maybe one of these days I can give back.

Flex,
do you eat the egg whites raw or cooked, I know this may sound stupid at first, but I've read about the denaturization of egg protein through cooking and was just curious.

Glad you asked~ Two methods for me: I usually add them to a smoothie in the morning. I just do a really quick (like 30 second) smothie every morning. A few cups of skim milk, a few bananas, a raw egg white, and a tablespoon of flax seed oil. Supprisingly the flax oil adds a nice nutty flavor that goes really well with bananas. Or make hard boiled eggs, and just pop the fatty cholesterol filled yolk out.

Oh and power bar actually makes a really great protien bar~ It is much better than any other I have tried like the Tiger Milk and nasties like that. Where do you live? I may be stopping through a town near you. We have a power bar endorsement, I could give you a box of em to try out.

Eating any part of an egg raw puts you at a high risk of getting salmonella. Big no-no there. Sorry for intruding, but this might save you a trip to the ER.

Oh come on are you serious? I have eaten well over 1000 raw eggs easily and have never had a single trip to the ER. After like 4 burgers at McDonalds I got insane food poisoning though. I think you are just a bit biased by media. I mean fast food is waaaay more harmful than a little raw egg. Do you have a statistic? What % of eggs are contaminated? I would guess you have a better chance of being hit by lightning.

I didn't make this up! It's common knowledge. I just know a thing or two about supplements and healthy dieting. But, by all means, eat it at your own risk. And Salmonella symptoms, by the way? Take food poisoning and multiply it times ten.

Lol well I have gotten food poisoning like 57 times. I have been eating raw eggs for like 5 years with no problems at all.

Oh and btw common knowledge can often be wrong (see Freakonomics).

Denatured proteins are still useful to the body so long as the individual amino acids are preserved. (The protein structure is irrelevant) In fact, the HCL in your stomach will denature the raw eggs as well as the cooked ones. I'm not sure what temperature will destroy the amino acids. Does anyone know?

I would imagine a safe guidline would be: if it doesn't smell terrible, it is fine~ I know it applys to dark greens* Try over cooking some mustard greens, your kitchen will smell terrible tongue.gif but I guess that is nutrient breakdown?

Yes, but you're really talented if you manage to set off the smoke alarm. (I have done that. Maybe it's a sign that I cannot cook...)

Different types of protein often have different Biological Value (BV) which indicates how well protein is absorbed by the body. Whey protein has the highest BV 104, whole egg 100, egg white 88, casein 77, soy 74. This can often mean that proteins sources have fast and/or slower release times Whey being fastest and so on respectively. I do however think that it is most often a good idea to mix protein types in order to have a constant supply of amino acids in the blood stream. The exception is when one has just either fasted of exerted oneself, then the body wants amino acids immediately so fast acting proteins in combination with a simple carbohydrate, to optimise absorbtion, would be the best option. I hope this is of some use to you :-)
Casey
While we're on subject, I have a question.

Why do so many people decry soy protein? I personally use whey protein, but I'm just wondering what makes it so much better? Is it absorption rate? Protein structure? Amino acid composition? All of the above?
simon
Soy is rather packed with phyto-oestrogens, it contains lectins which stop the digestion of proteins and it lacks the sulphur containing amino acid methionine which is very important for the immune system.
