This was sent to me in a recent E-mail! Please beware the one place where alot of us found comfort in at one time is now scamming people on their poetry! Please think twice! Your work is worth more than this!!! >:(
Here's another to watch out for:
Voices Network.
This one is set up the same way as the International Library of Poety (aka poetry.com). One of my poems was chosen...but there was a catch. Here's the e-mail I got from them.
-----------------
Congratulations! One of your poems has been selected for publication in the 1st Voices Anthology Poetry Competition
sponsored by Voicesnet - The Voices Network.
Poem Title: Out, Cast.
Our URL is www.voicesnet.com.
We need your permission to publish your poem, so please go to www.voicesnet.com/poetrypermission.htm on the Internet,
print out, and then fill out our customized permission slip and mail it back to us.
The completed permission slip can be mailed back to us at: Voicesnet, PO Box 936, Powell, Ohio 43065
You do not lose your personal copyright on your material by giving us permission to publish your work in the Voices Anthology
publication.
On the Permission Slip, you can also order the first Voices Anthology contest winners book, which will include your winning
work, but no order is required for your work to be published in the winning volume, just the signed permission slip, and a
parent's signature if you are under 18 years of age.
You can now also order online from our website through PayPal at www.voicesnet.com/poetryorder.htm.
Also, once permission is received, you are still in the running for the top 3 contest awards, which include $100, $50, and $25
prizes for 3 lucky poets and publication of your work on our Voicesnet.com website and to our Voicesnet Mailing List members
(exceeds 300 members now). Also, the top 3 winners will receive free copies of the Voices Anthology publication.
Once we get your permission for publication, we will edit and spell check for errors in your work and email you a copy of the
revised work. You will get the final edit and be able to email us back any corrections still needed to the works, including any
changes we make during the editing process to grammar and/or spelling mistakes that you may have made "on purpose" in the
context of writing your work.
We want to thank you for contributing to our site and being a part of this exciting process as our site grows and continues to
adapt to the Internet environment.
As a final reminder, the required Permission Slip can be printed from the Internet at www.voicesnet.com/poetrypermission.htm.
Sincerely,
Jeff Humphrey

It seems to me, that you need to send back the permission slip to get published. It says 'no order is required for your work to be published in the winning volume, just the signed permission slip'.

Miraged, I don't know who you are, and you apparently don't want me to know who you are, but I want to tell you something: Jeff Humphrey and his VoicesNet site hurt me very deeply, and I hate him and his site with a deep and abiding hatred. May he and his site both come to ruin and to grief. I don't think you understand how deeply some of us here have been hurt by this man and his site. I will leave it to others to explain why we are here, and what we have suffered.
This is my opinion, to which I am entitled. I defy anyone to attempt to rob me of my opinion or my free expression of it. I hate Jeff Humphrey, and I hate VoicesNet.
These are my words which I shall never repent.

I will help Steve explain
VoicesNet got jealous of Steve
cuz Steve replied to as many posts as he could and even personally Imed us and helped us if we needed help
I left the stupid site for Steve
he was and still is the nicest person
Jeff was so jealous it wasnt funny
He couldnt even look over his own site and moderate
this site is a billion and more times better
Anyone who sticks up for VoicesNet is not a friend of mine

Thanks, Manda! And thanks for what you wrote, too. I get a little crazy on the subject of that Gottverdammtes VoicesNet site...
But I do mean my curse, and I do expect it to be effective. Indeed, it is already working. I wish people would just not mess with me, and save themselves a lot of trouble.

I send you all my love, respect, and solidarity. You are a dear and loyal friend, and I never, never forget (as you know, and as we have seen).

creepy but cool
Talk about childish, immature ranting! NO poet has to buy anything at Voices, and NO member would be allowed to post this sort of childish, bigoted, and immature diatribe! If this is your answer to Voices kicking you out, all I can say is, I for one am sure glad you got booted, for I prefer ADULT intereaction, with mature, responsible dialogue. Sorry, losers, although I know you will delete this a.s.a.p. I pray some of your visitors/members get the facts, which obviously you do not deal in.

Well, hey, JJ! Â What's up?
Sorry to find you so cross on this lovely spring evening...
Oh, you say you're NOT JJ? Â Sure, whatever...
You certainly speak like him... but, of course, you VoicesNut folks all have that distinctive narrowness, that certain petty angriness...
The "Voices" in question are small, frightened, and hostile. Â
Rather sad, don't you think?
For more childish, immature ranting, be sure to check out:
http://brainmeta.com/poemdirectory/stevelance.htmlNote to my fellow Moderators: Â Please do NOT delete the petty-post preceding mine here... I want people to see what kind of constipated little people from whom we have escaped. Â Don't you just love it where he speaks of people not being "allowed"... that is just SO VoicesNut! Â :-*

Hey Steve
that guy is ridiculous, allright. Is this VoicesNet place some kind of haven for wannabees and poseurs or something?

Hi again Steve
I just looked at this voicesnet place, it looks like a poetry sweatshop
they claim to pay about $5000 per year for material, but all I see is a $175 quarterly payoff that amounts to $700 per annum. Â Not that either of those numbers is worthy of admiration. What I want to know is who buys their publications and how much sales revenue they make. Â I'm guessing their website is interested in developing a consumer base out of easily suckered poet wishfuls, stroking them while milking them.

Hi Toneta
thanks for your sincere opinion, I believe you are well intentioned. Â It seems to me that the money issue is important, and that well-intentioned moderators like yourself are providing a valuable service not only to the poet-in-training, but to the few who are profiting. Â The overall morale of the moderators is good because this place is fairly new and the joy of the work still masks the question of the money that is being generated from all this effort and good intention. Â If this place is an honest place, there should be no problem in obtaining a financial report. Â I am betting that such a request will be rejected, because the inevitable fact of profiteering would run counter to the spirit of artistic integrity

Hmmm, Toneta, You know we have always been friends, at the other site and at here. I have no issues with you voicing your opinions, as you did so in a mature, non-threatening way. I only don't understand why you would thinnk peple here, who are BANNED form the site, are waisting time sending links to porn sites there?
And if SOOO many of us are banned, HOW can we get on the site to send links there?
Just some questions to ponder. I must say I for one am glad JJ decided to ban ME, for whatever reason he had, I still have not recieved a notification, explination, but hey, that would be too mature! This site has been the best thing to happen to me in quite some time. So, I must thank JJ for his decision to ban SOOO many of us here. AND I must thank Shawn for having such a wonderful site! I LOVE it here, this is MY home!
Love,
Dara!

Yes this has become a home for many of us here! I feel very hurt my voices...because I was banned for no reason....I worked very hard on my forum there and for no reason at all still to this day as Dara has said has JJ given an explination for being the self righteous prick he is and yes I say this because it is my opinion and here we are allowed ot voice our opinions freely without Judgement....the only thing I can figure is I was friends with Steve and Dara and next thing I knew....my forum was completely deleted....no reason nothing..... >:(
I battled this disease i had and won and I was trying to help others who battled disabilities to have a safe haven and someone to talk too.... :-[
people can call us immature all the want but what JJ did was also low degrading and very immature...especially after he praised me for my work and then deleted all I work for a week later........ :'( >:(
This is beyond not being fair....... and i am very hurt by this I speak why voices net hurt me......... :'( >:(
and i am sorry if I offend anyone because of this......
:oas for the porn thing most of us who were banned from there had our IP addresses recorded and are unable to access the site from our computers so why lash out at people who were truly hurt......because the site is getting spammed like many other sites online ummmm even this site was spammed by porn links but I for one never once said it was th fault of voices net......I think people nned to grow up and think before they start flinging accussations about who has been doing this.. >:(
I am tired of pity parties for voices net....so please keep your recruiters at bay we don't care to listen....

I joined here after discovering that Chrissy's forum had been removed. I prefer not to associate with the type of people who would hurt someone who only wanted to help others. I read "a's" post (Gee, what are the two letters after a? two 's' perhaps?) He calls some of us immature. Funny, forcing people to register and join their little group in order to read the forum strikes me as immature. Wonder what they had to hide? Anyway. I am a proud member of mind-brain. We are family here (which is something i never felt there).

First, my name, for these purposes, is Elf. I am the moderator coordinator at Voices. And, yes, I am also 'a'. Many may think me cowardly for posting without a proper name, but let's look at the facts.
First, person or persons ( unknown?) attack Voices, leaving many derogatory and demeaning messages concerning J.J., Voices , and myself.
Second, these same person(s) send e-mail to myself, and other moderators, concerning sick porno sites. I have a grandaughter who uses my computer. I have a wife who shares my computer. I DO NOT appreciate this kind of garbage being sent to me, no matter how badly someone may feel themselves 'hurt'
Now, I am accusing no one. But, when I do a search for other poetry sites, and I come across this one, and then read postings with words, not close to, but IDENTICAL to many of the sick postings seen at Voices, almost IDENTICAL to the IM's I myself received from the disturbed inidividual who attacked Voices, I reacted. Without anyone's "permission", for I need none. And, only after I perused the whole site here, seeing so much immaturity and childish hate that I felt it foolish to take the chance to let all know my e-mail, although of course I knew at least one person could trace my IP#.
Now, all has been said. I think it is time for everyone to start reacting in a more mature, thinking manner. Illegal name mongering, slandering, etc. gets no one anyplace. Yes, that kind of hate mongering is not allowed at Voices, even if it was proven someone here was responsible for the attacks. Voices prides themselves on not allowing personal attacks. That is NOT limiting expression or freedom, that is considering the feelings and rights of all, not just one or two.
If the members here want to have their site grow, as I'm sure they do, this same over-all consideration must take priority. There cannot be complete personal freedom of expression, if that freedom is damaging others. Surely no one is so egotistical as to believe THEIR rights supersede all others? Let's grow together, live together, and stop this nonsense.
Just an addendum, i also know not what exactly transpired between some members here, and J.J. Not do I really care. I care only about stopping the attacks on myself, and Voices, and the pointless hate some seem to nurture, which only hurts the individual doing the hating.

ok first of all not knowing anything about what happened what gives you the right to come here and say your peace It means nothing as you are just spouting about the slandering of your site! If you don't care only for Voices then go back into your hole and please be quiet....

:

Noone here know of any of these porn links that you have been getting! We do not pride ourselfs to sit in front of computers and send out porn links! Get real!!! :

as for the slandering..this is our anger and personal opinions there is no laws against that...
no matter how hurt some of us may be we are beyond the pettiness of doing such things as sabotoging your precious site....which is the only thing you care to protect......

how does this site matter to voicesnet? Â Why do you care what these people say here? Â And what's with the rhetoric about 'slander' and 'immaturity'? Â If you don't like what you see, don't come around. Â If you feel the need to sue then do it, otherwise be mature and shut up about it already. Â It's that simple

Actually, you need mine.
(and if you want to put this to the test, then it will be my pleasure) Â
Elf, there is nothing 'illegal' being done on this site.  If you don't believe me, go talk to a lawyer or learn about the law  online.  Members of this forum have the right to freely express their opinions, and you really shouldn't be trying to intimidate and harrass them, or feed them disinformation and misleading posts, just because you don't happen to agree with their opinions. Â
If you sincerely want to do any good here, then you'll heed your own advice about showing overall consideration to others here, and by not being so narrowly egotistical and childish.
And also, if you have problems with individual members here, then I suggest you IM or email them privately instead of broadcasting your posts here or by trying to initiate flame wars. Â Â
