Since some people (Flex and Lindsay) happen to be urging me to divulge more information about myself, I figure il give you a bit more information.

Maximus' Philosophy

Alrighty, since philosophy is by far the subject which I talk about most and get a lot of response on the forum about, I figure I will start with it. I believe that in order for a person to live a fufilling life, they need only do three things.

1. Decide what you want

Sounds easy enough doesnt it? well it isnt, most often people have great ideas about what other people want them to do. But more often than not, they are so concerned with pleasing people like their parents, colleagues ect. That they do not stop to take the time and think about what they really want, deep down in the darkest most hidden recesses of their mind. In the back of all of our minds is things we had thought about doing, that we really wanted to do but havent done or have yet to do. Those are what I call things you really want, they are not vague things like getting a new cell phone but rather deep, profound and emensly important things which have been neglected.

It took me a long time to decide what I really wanted, this is my method for divulging the true desires of the heart.

First the general then the specific.

You should not have to much difficulty deciding the general things you desire in life, happiness, health, whatever, ect. Once you have isolated the general objects of your desire, you dig deeper to find the things that will make up these general desires. In happiness, you have to find things you truely believe will make you happy, things that will truly make you so happy you will cry and laugh and smile, all at the same time. When you can think of those things, then you are getting to the specific joys in life that you really want.

2. Figure out how to get what you want.

Once you have completed the daunting task of deciding what you really want deep down inside, then you must commit yourself absolutly and unconditionally to getting what you truely want. This should be easy if you really want it, if you find it difficult to commit yourself wholey and entirely to achieving these things, then you have not yet found what you really want.

Once you have found what you really want, commiting to them is rediculously easy, soon money and status have no substance to you, your focus becomes absolute on achieving your desires. You must be 100% commited, not 99.99% - 100%, only then can you hope to get what it is you want.

Now that you have commited to these tasks, you must figure out how to get what you want, take apart it piece by piece until you know exactly how the desires can be achieved. Play it like a movie in your mind's eye, go through every step required to achieve what you want, when you reach the end of the movie and have all of your desires met, then you can begin to enjoy them. Of course, now we have to turn those thoughts into a reality, do not skip on this part, you must go through each and every step you need to take to get what you want.

When this is done then you only need to...

3. Go get what you want!

After step one and step two, you just need to figure out what the first step is to achieving your goal and do the first step, then the second step and so on.

So do I practice what I preach? well... ive been working to achieve my goals for 5 and 1/2 years now and, im almost done! I have only a few things left to do and then im done tongue.gif I have to say, as I get closer and closer to getting what I have been striving for, I get happier and happier with each passing day. You wanna know what? IT WAS THE TOUGHEST THING IVE EVER DONE!

Yes, its true, I havent found something more challenging than achieving my deepest desires, but the feeling you get when you do is unimaginable. You feel such a sensation of happiness, it is beyond description, to have worked for an uncountable amount and to finally achieve what you have put every last breath into is beyond words. Truely, there is no better feeling in the world.

So what happens when you finally achieve all of your goals? You relax, if you manage to actually do so, then you will be exhausted, and will definatly need some time to just relax.

Finally, you must have absolute faith in yourself, you must never allow doubt to enter your mind for even a single second, always must you ignore those who would put you down and say it cant be done. If you do this, then your success is certain.

Oh yea and if you wanna know what ive been working for, to bad im not going to tell you. In fact I find with everyone I talk to they either deny having such deep desires or say they dont want to tell me or anyone. Its the same thing with me, with such deep and profound things, one keeps them close to their heart and guarded at all times.

Tired from typing, will add more later, post comments or questions if you like.

The powers of google are coming up short... The only other instances of Maximus242 I could find had to do with martial arts. The post did however seem pretty philisophical~ I don't care to hear about your dreams. I don't let anyone know my dreams eaither (once they are out there they become expectations, and I am no longer pusuing my dreams but an expectation). I was more interested in your past experiences. You know schooling and the likes, just general stuff.

1. Decide what you want....
2. Figure out how to get what you want....
3. Go get what you want!

So far this sounds like a copy of Caesar (Rome over all!!! "I came, I saw, I conquered"), Napoleon (France over all..) and Hitler (Germany over all!) and Bush? (America over all)

I hope and trust that it is more than the above. I can't wait to find out. laugh.gif

Also the philosophy of anyone who has become hugely sucessful (with the exception of the rare individual who wins the lotery and is handed everything). I am assuming that Bill Gates follows this principle.

Good post maximus!

I can admit that my two unachievable desires are to be able to discern a persons true intentions and to be able to fly like a bird!!

These are totally unrelated to your post, by the way.

I suppose that from day to day my objective is to avoid boredom and I must admit that I have achieved that for 60 years or so. Lucky me!

What principle, Flex?

BTW, looking back over 70 years: I got the education I wanted, and needed, to get on with my career as a minister--and I am continuing to educate myself. I had a happy professional career, and I am now enjoying the challenge of retirement.

MY GOAL
My goal is to die healthy--the only pills I take are probiotics (enzymes, herbs, vitamins, and the like, which I get from a company called rgarden)--and to leave whatever legacy I can create to those I leave behind--my two children, three grandchildren, and others.

FEATHERS COVER THE WHOLE BIRD
I take a feathers--that is, a democratic-capitalism approach to political economics and all our resources. My approach is neither left wing nor right wing. I am neither a doctrinaire socialist, nor a dogmatic capitalist. I am an Aristotelian.

ANY WEALTH THAT FLOWS IS GOOD WEALTH
While I abhor dishonesty and greed, I have no problem with anyone, such as Bill Gates, who have achieved all kinds of wealth and power, as long as it was gained, honestly and is used wisely and lovingly. I expect people of wealth and power to be good stewards--that is, I expect them to manage their wealth and power for their own and for the public good.

CONCEPTION AND CONSUMERS
It seems to me that we all started life as consumers. As a baby you were a beautiful consumer, I hope. I was and was number seven at the teat--one more followed me. That is, we started to consume resources in the form of goods and services belonging to others, our parents, who consumed goods and services which belonged to others, their employers, who consumed goods and services which belonged to others and on, an on. Together, we still consume the resources of Mother Earth and...I'll call him, Father Sky (for both Iuse the symbol,GØD). And together, we the people need to be moral and ethical stewards of providence--what ME and FS ( GØD) provide.

MORAL AND ETHICAL STEWARDSHIP
Steward (keeper of the animal stys). Interestingly, the NT Greek word is is 'oikonomos'. From it we get our word 'economics'. Ad stewards we are keepers, or managers, of the house (oiko). Honest and creative stewardship of all our resources gives all of us the opportunity to be creatively employed, and creative employers--by our consumption providing employment for others. And on it flows to others. Every time a dollar moves--whether from the hands of the poor or rich--it becomes part of the flow of things. Wealth, like a river, needs to flow to remain pure. Poverty, IMO, is not caused by lack of providence; it is the result of immoral stewardship--caused by ignorance, or by obscurant manipulators--somewhere along the line. Most importantly: follow the flow of money.

WE NEED A CURRENCY WHICH FLOWS LIKE OUR RIVERS
It is obvious that money is made to flow, like the current of a river. This is why we call it currency. Stagnant money is like stagnant water. It stinks. This is why I like encouraging people to use local, complementary and community currencies (CCC) in addition to the federal currency. CCC is is not for hoarding or saving; it is for using and is useless unless it is used.

BTW, anyone heard about the local currency movement? I first started to write about it in the 1960's.

Whatever happened to the gold standard?
Which one? There was more than one kind, you know.
BTW, we still have a gold standard. The one we have now is based on the market price of gold. And there is a way to use it. It is called: Buy units at e-gold.com I have an account with e-gold. Feel free to PM me about this, if you are interested.

Once again I can't express my ultimate goals smile.gif once they are out they become expectations, and I am doing everything for no one but myself~ But I can tell you some general stuff. 10 years from now I WILL buy a house outright cash. 10 years from now I WILL NOT be a tour manager. 10 years from now I will have my second girlfriend~

Sorry guys for lack of posts, I havent been online in the past couple of days. I saw a few of my friends put on a play, to which I was most entertained. Flex, I have skills on both sides of the brain, I have a god like talent when it comes to art, yet I also know 7 computer languages. I listen to classical music and to rock and roll/heavy metal, wierd combination hu? I am a lover of the arts: drama, art, music, dance, I always enjoy them very much. I am very much a solitary person yet I always seem to have many friends, I have too many intrests to count. Sorry, but... its a bit strange for me right now, I have almost reached my goal, for which I have sought for many years.

Im in a state of shock right now, because well, think of it like this. Your looking through a telescope on the open sea, you know that an Island is near by, so you keep on looking through your telescope but you only see water. Then... thud, suddenly you hit land, as it turned out you were already at the island, but you failed to realize it because you were to busy looking into the distance with your telescope. Thats what has just happened to me, the island is my goal and I was looking out to my goal and I had failed to realize I had already found what I was looking for.

I am literatly writing this not even an hour after my realization of that fact, so im unable to write much right now, I developed a nervous twitch for about 45 mins after I came to this realization, its gone now though. More to come tommorow.

But if you are like me, once you have found your island, you will no doubt find some new mountain to conquer smile.gif

Congradulations on your accomplishment~
