CAIRO, EGYPT (AP) -- A new videotape, purportedly made by Osama bin Laden's deputy, contains a new threat toward the US and Persian Gulf countries and Israel.

In the tape aired by Al-Jazeera, Ayman al-Zawahri says the US shouldn't waste time reinforcing troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. He says ''their fate is doomed.''

Instead, al-Qaida's number-two says the US should focus on the Gulf and Israel.

He also warns in general terms about new terror strikes, and calls on Muslims to intensify their resistance against the US especially in Lebanon and Gaza.

In what appear to be recently recorded references, Al-Zawahri condemns the Lebanese cease-fire and international peacekeeping force as ''hostile to Islam.'' And he says the US has given al-Qaida ''every legitimacy and every opportunity to continue fighting.''

My thoughts: Yeah, ok, al-Zawahri. Sure, we're really scared of you!

Pathetic!

They're laughable all right, but not funny ha ha. Which reminds me of something I often wonder about. Do any of these guys have even the slightest hint of a sense of humor? I'm thinking no.

Grace Slick (of the old rock group Jefferson Airplane) said in a song "Any time I laugh, I got religion." Speaking of humor, here's a possible political slogan:

"Vietnam wasn't horrible enough for you? Now we have two!"

Iraq is a quagmire and Afghanistan, due to Republican bungling, seems headed down the tubes.
