Some are art, period. Some are who knows what ..... crap comes to mind. Most are from people who have even more time on their hands than I do. I did try to make one in one of my fields though, by cutting a circularish shape in the grass. It attracted lots of gliders from the local club. I didn't get any awards though, and they didn't get any flying saucers!

It's quite a good form of relaxation activity anyway.
