I heard the cries
I saw the fear in her eyes
As blood seeped through her hands
Plausible explanation escaped my demands
Then I saw her flesh - torn apart
The same wounds gouged - within my heart

I saw the neighbors
Their eyes wide with fright
Full of reassurance
"It'll be alright"

But it wont be alright!
My baby faced with a new plight

Not life threatening... but scarred for life

When I look at her beautiful face
The yet to form scar I long to erase
Flutterby soul - I will forever embrace
The innocence - I know I can't replace

From this day on
From dusk to dawn
What will she see in her reflection
Certainly never will she see perfection
Perhaps a longing for correction
Her gaze immediately drawn to the lines on her face
They can't be covered...
I'll help her handle them with grace

The rage and anger I feel
At the canine's owners - so quick to squeal
"He's never bitten anyone before"
Such shallow words struck a nerve deep in my core

And the Barney cop that showed up at my door
Was just as callous while calling the score
We wont put him down until he does it once more

So, until then, they choose to ignore
Ignore the time bomb you simply can't prepare for
Neighbor kid frantically yelling through the screen door
Your child's face - not the same face you kissed moments before

OR

The only person left to pity might be YOU
As you are led

To YOUR CHILD LEFT DEAD

IN A POOL OF RED

By the dog who had only bitten one time

Will that fact console you
Or will you consider it a crime

Go ahead...

I dare you!

Picture your child torn to shreds

Will the score be enough THEN
To put a bullet in that dog's head?
