forever alone

where once a melody floated above the mountains
we dared to seek to find a dream in our own time
as children holding stars in their hearts for tomorrow
gladdened with hopes and expectations, gifts for an eternity

look up to the snow covered peaks
remember when you and i soared
flying with the chilled south wind
in free flight, tumbling with angels.

screaming seabirds now swoop and dance upon the remnants
bickering for scraps in the midst of the white capped waves,
feasting upon the altar once laid so carefully with devotion,
devouring affectionate recollections we left so very far behind

look up to the snow covered peaks
remember when you and i soared
flying with the chilled south wind
in free flight, tumbling with angels.

and now i wait at windows, a shadow, alone and unguarded,
watching the wind rain torturous tears upon the shore
my shattered soul seeks for solace in silent seclusion,
i will remain evermore beyond deliverance, forever alone.

Cousin, your words could just as easily apply to me; this is how I feel, remembering the past, in pain in the present, and fearful of the future. I was once happy, and in love; my life is distinctly divided into two parts: the before and the after. Between the two times, before what and after which, is hard to describe; it was a terrible loss, a breakdown, a collapse of everything which once I recognized as me. It is as though I lived once and then died, and yet somehow I remain

"a shadow, alone and unguarded."

You speak for me as well as you here in your poem, that is the subjective dimension; in the objective dimension your poem is a good and strong and meaningful work of art, which therefore speaks for humanity, transcendent of individual specificity, reaching deep to the roots of the human experience.

Respect and solidarity, g'day and cousinly love to you, my fellow poet, fellow human, and my dear Cousin Greg, from your

beautiful poem, remembering that what seems lost, holding on to the last light - while the world outside the mind has changed- oh so much... has grown, for the profit, for the people, for the better - for the worse, upsides, downsides - while the memory still burns
