My Poetry
My poetry is considered good by some,
But believe it or not,
I put no serious effort into it...
The words just come,
Flow into my head.
The punctuation,
The spelling;
Elementary.
My poetry,
Others like it,
I think it needs improvement,
They say it's fine.
Sometimes I need a critic,
Not a fan.
If you don't like my poetry,
So what?
It's mine, not yours.
My poetry.

Hi Lolly, and welcome; thank you for joining us and sharing your poetry with us.
I like this poem, and I feel the same way about my own poetry;
"The words just come,
Flow into my head."
I often describe it as rather like a petit mal seizure, or some such event; actually I suppose there is no way to describe it so well as to just do it. This is the beautiful difference between poetry and prose, in that poetry just happens and is a thing-in-itself, the end of its own means, the means to its own end; poetry just is.
It have always felt awkward deconstructing poetry; I feel as though I were pinning the butterfly, or taking the clock apart to see what makes it tick (I did that to my alarm clock when I was a kid, and it didn't go well; still, at least I had an excuse for sleeping late). As a teacher I find myself extremely Zen about it, hating to talk about it at all; I am more of an old Roshi than some Western deconstructionist and analyst. I always feel as though I were somehow sinning should I be called upon to go beyond describing how a poem makes me feel.
In any case, what I mean to say is that I like your poem, and that I am very pleased to have you with us. It will be delightful to be reading the work of new members and friends hereabouts; we are really fortunate to have so many fascinating voices here from all around the world.
Make yourself at home, and know indeed you are; we are happy and fortunate to have you with us, new friend and fellow poet Lolly.
Respect and solidarity, thanks and love,
+Stevie

That is the beauty of this place. This lovely community where we share. People are very honest here. I personally have a hard time thinking anything I write is any good, but when others would tell me they enjoyed it, I couldn't help but gush over it. I say write until your fingers are sore, there will always be some that love or hate it. The trick is being happy with your creation no matter what. I will continue to read and comment. I drift in and out of here. I have these long dry spells of no creative flow, so I will be sure to check in with you. You have a fan in me my dear.
Much love,
nikki

what flows out naturally is often the best. it can seem too raw and simplistic at first, but re-reading can sometimes show the complexity. whatever, it's always interesting, as it's from a human being, the strangest and most abstract of creatures.
