Nor Does it Matter Anyway

For me the best antidote to futility
Is a well-developed sense of absurdity
Otherwise swimming upstream in a world gone blind
Deaf and dumber than ever I would lose my mind
Which now that I think of it I might have misplaced
Happy are those whose memories have been erased
The more aware you are these days the more depressed

How fortunate the stupid how blessed the repressed
"Where ignorance is bliss 'tis folly to be wise"
Those words were meant for here and now I realize
As a twenty-first century American
Free to kill or be killed as an army of one
No future no past no present under the tree
In the family plot there is no place for me

So I guess I will have to die another day
Live well laugh last nor does it matter anyway

this is amazingly deep for being brief and dripping with understanding

Thanks, Misty! I like this one too, honestly; I think it's one of my better ones. It's certainly deeply-felt, I know that.

The purple monkey in the thumbnail is actually animated elsewhere, but strangely static here; he's quite the live-wire on AuthorsDen. I trot out the purple monkey over there every now and then, to lighten things up (absurdly, of course!).

Thanks and love,

+Stevie
