Dirty Skies

Dirty skies
Gray
Dark
Empty

Numbing

Advancing
Encouraging surrender to unrelenting frosty gloom
Shrouding all in impetuous doom

Brown, dry, brittle, and frail
Battered
Weakened
Vulnerable
Delivered upon death's threshold
They're stretching toward the cruel oppressor
Begging

They know

Brilliant foliage of open fields -
Stripped
Manicured lawns, rooftop gardens -
Shriveled
Butchered
Majestic forests -
Exposed
Facing winter's cold truth with nothing more than their towering skeletal remains

All they hear now is none
All they see is eclipsed and somber
Determined to withstand the frigid assault
They reach to the desolate haze
Driven
Persistent
Insistent
They understand

They know

Knowledge comes not from sentience, logic or even consciousness
Faith not born from persuasion
Still, they know

Reaching
Intently
Relentlessly
Incessantly
Eternally
The time will come

Demanding
Beloved spring will be thine
Involuntary hibernation revolt!
'tis you, unforeseen deluge, that will succumb to spring's dawning!!

Skies clear
Sun's curing rays liberated
Sheltered, concealed buds emancipated
Buried sprouts escape their hardened tomb bursting with renewed plenitude
Scents, textures and hues of infinite variety now rise
Songs of life bellow to the heavens on the warm breeze

The once indignant sky is presented it’s reward
Genesis from seeming remnants of death

They knew...

I KNEW

Beautiful and wise, Jo, and beautifully presented on the page as well.

I am feeling these things too these days. I have just written and posted a poem called Paradox of Equinox which speaks to the transformation of spring.

I hear your voice emboldened, empowered, and that delights me. I hear you "speak with authority, and not as the scribes."

Respect and solidarity, my friend and fellow poet; may you share in the laughter of the immortals always, and shine like the stars forever and ever.

Love,

You have a magical pen, Sir Stevie.

Isn't it lovely how such an object is transformed when led by the heart? Transformed into the courrier bearing gifts which can only be accepted by the heart.

Your kind words are deeply appreciated, and your kind wishes are returned with the utmost sincerity.

Thank You from the heart.

Jo
