Full Version: On Personal Identities And Credentials In The Forum
BrainMeta.com Forum > Feedback, Announcements & FAQ > Announcements
Shawn

Most people probably know this already, but recent events compel me to make it explicit:

Because it is usually impossible to confirm or deny anyone's identity or credentials, more so online but also even in real life, it is necessary to take other people's identities with something of a grain of salt, and instead focus on the content of their messages and whether what they say makes sense and is valid.

In particular, do not trust what people post based on the authority they are assuming. Instead, focus on the content of their post, irrespective of their authority. If someone makes a post under the name "Michael Jackson", do not accept that the person is necessarily "Michael Jackson". Similarly, if someone claims to be a doctor or whatever, do not take that as any reason to believe anything of what they post. Instead, focus on the content of their post and whether what they say makes sense to you and is valid.

Soooo....does this mean that you are not a neuroscientist from JH, and you didn't create this forum?

Soooo....sometimes reality is just as it appears and some of us are who we say we are and do what we say we do!

hahaha love the smiley face Trip, well you still have to take into account that who or what someone is happens to be moreso based on ones own private reality than actuallity. Think about doctors from other countries, over their they are doctors, here they are burger flippers..

Trip, don't take what I say on grounds of authority. Pubmed may confirm my existence, but it doesn't say anything about whether I am who I say I am. The point is, do not take anything as true based on authority. In fact, distrust all appeals to authority. Instead, listen to the content of what is being communicated.

I leave open the possibility that I am really President George Bush posting as 'Shawn'.

Though I suppose the whole issue of identity has a deeper philosophical/spiritual side that sidesteps the personal. And so the question becomes, does someone's personal identity even matter?

I do like Jung as well, but not in preference over Freud, but more as a compliment.

Here is some generic Jung.

Carl Jung - Analytic Psychology

He was disgusted with the way schools of thought often become dogmatic discouraging new ideas.

Collective unconscious - is a storehouse of latent memory traces inherited from people's ancestral past (archetypes).

latent - not visible or apparent; not seen; not manifested; 'under the surface'.

It contains the whole spiritual heritage of mankind's evolution, born anew in the brain structure of every individual.

Manifested in a culture's use of symbols in art, literature, and religion.
God reveals himself through the collective unconscious.

Whereas the personal unconscious is unique for each individual, the collective unconscious is shared.

Jung refered to the collective unconscious as 'transpersonal'; it extends across persons.
It consists of certain potentialities that we all share because we are human.

We know that can't be true by your avatar--too many creases.

Great question. Welcome to the Internet. Where sex, age, skin color and a lot of things that we consider part of our very personal identity become only as irrelevant as we want them to be. I consider this a very postitive step forward in progress towards our ultimate goal as a species: Unity/Oneness.

Shawn I agree purpose and intent of the poster is what most people care about.
lucid_dream
it's generally not a good idea to troll around these boards. Trolls tend to mysteriously disappear rather quickly.
lucid_dream
Guest, it is this sort of pettiness that qualifies as trolling and that is counter-productive. This is my last warning. If you want to squabble, take it somewhere else.
LifeMirage
I sprayed some troll-be-gone...seems to have worked.

I respond to people who have an interest in knowledge (guest or not) but usually not to those with other motives...at least not for very long. lol.

Prometheus from Imminst please avoid posting here unless you have something positive to contribute.

In LifeMirage's case it diefinitely means he is not a "MD"

Anonymity is not really needed here, is it? As we've already made clear, Prometheus1 (who is a director of Imminst and yet finds time to stalk and harass LM), whether LM holds an MD or not is a moot point. It is irrelevant for establishing the value of the content of posts because, like was said above, pleas to authority go unnoticed. The content of the post is what matters, and it doesn't matter if the person claims to be Jesus, Abraham Lincoln, or in your case, Prometheus.

As a "director" of an organization, I would advise you to make better use of your time. We've heard your message and yet you insist on repeating it like a parrot. Why is that?

fyi, personal harassment is generally frowned upon, and in most places, it's against the law, even in Melbourne, Australia.

Ok, Prometheus, then I will inform your ISP, Telstra Internet, in Melbourne about your online harassment and abuse by reporting your IP, 60.230.44.60, to abuse@telstra.net

I would recommend others who take offense to your prepubescent antics to do the same.
