Full Version: Do I Belong Here?

I'm scratching my head trying to find a common theme here. Do we ALL have to be neuroscientists? Does the forum need an administrative assistant or cheerleader? If so, I'm your...person.

The fact that anything exists is mind blowing. I want so much to believe that everyone else thinks that way too. Sometimes I want to interrupt the person next to me with, "Yeah, but what's going on?" When I say that, I really mean WHAT'S GOING ON? Not everyone understands. I mean, what if you woke up one day to discover a large block of swiss cheese suspended in mid-air just above your bed. Defying gravity! Wouldn't you try to figure out why or how? I would. Or would you just shrug your shoulders, saying, "Who cares, I like cheese," and then start eating it? To me, that's how most people are about life, consciousness and their own existence. It's like, who cares, I have my treadmill to attend to--that's all that matters, so leave me alone. Or: "We can't figure it out anyway, so why waste time dwelling on it?"

I hope I conveyed my meaning, but I fear I may have failed. I got all excited when I saw the "Clickable Similes" box on the left, thinking it would help me with my metaphors, analogies and such. Instead, I got a bunch of little smirking, mocking icons.

From the little bit I've already seen here, this is a fabulous forum.

Welcome OnlyNow. Life is a mystery. Existence is a mystery. As a child, we gaze in wondrous amazement and mystery at the workings of the world. As an adult, the harsh realities of surviving and thriving set in, and most adopt a routine, banishing the mysteries of existence to a big list of unanswerable questions. The mysteries of existence are profound and so it's tragic that this sense of mystery often dies in adults. However, it needn't die. There are many of us who appreciate the mysteries about us, and the mystery of it all. But the sense of awe experienced by this does not mean we should neglect other aspects of our life. We are each here only a short time. We each have a task to accomplish in that short time. See to it that you accomplish what you are here to do before your time runs out.

Thanks, lucid dream--we're on the same page for sure.

And Bill, glad you enjoy my sense of humor. More to come. This forum will never be the same...

Thanks, Ann. I think it's somehow fitting that my first acronym was LAUGHTER. Sometimes I think that we laugh because our minds are dancing with an element of pure truth. (Other times I think it's just because something's funny.) Anyway, thanks for the welcome.
