Metamorphosis

In an erstwhile disused corner
Of a dusty dining room
Scene of so much childhood trauma
I evolved from damaged mourner
Waiting to join in their tomb
All those others in the drama
Which was once my family

Here in this once barren womb
I have transcended tragedy
Something happened these past years
Through the lawsuits through the tears
Hoped from heartbreak forced from fears
Something happened here to me
I have turned into a poet in this place

Emerging from this chrysalis a butterfly
I am ready for the world to see my face
Out of the dust of death to soar in the sky
I give you me: this poetry my life's embrace
