SHADES OF GRAY

There is no good, not evil,
There is no right, not wrong,
And there is no black, not white,
We exist only in shades of gray…
Peering out of scratches & dust
On worn pieces of film
Intriguing compositions
Of love & hate
Laughter & tears
Strengths & weaknesses
Fading over time
Our finishes pinken
Our edges tear
We soften and dissolve
Until one day
There are only hints
Of what filled the frames
Smiles & scowls so ancient
That they only exist in folklore & fairytale

**I KNOW 'pinken' isn't a REAL word but it means exactly what I want it to mean. wink.gif**

Hey, Manders!

Good to see you here again. Vigdis is right; this really is a cool poem and well done.

And don't worry about the word "pinken": it's every bit as real and respectable as "redden" or "blacken." It's a good word, and the right word, meaning exactly what you want it to mean. Your intuition is correct, as intuition tends to be.

Thanks for sharing this with us, my friend and fellow poet. We always enjoy your work here.

Cheers and love,

+Stevie

Thanks All! Are 'redden' and 'blacken' not real words?
+Steven Curtis Lance
"Redden" and "blacken" and "pinken" are all good and real words, Manders; and then there's one of my favorite quotations ever, from Oppenheimer:

"Nothing pinks like propinquity."

He might just as easily have said "pinken."

So good to see you here, my friend and fellow poet. I love your poetry.

Respect and solidarity, cheers and love,

+Stevie
