A New Years Planting

We are each the wellspring of our own well-being,
As there lives within us a pristine fountain;
Untouched by calloused gropings preening -
Our work we sow upon this mountain.

Where staggering blind, we plant our seeds
To circumscribe our worth in pride.
We count our harvest artfully
To bear the gifts we’ve grown to hide.

Yet nothing cast beneath the vine
Shall rise to quench these thirsty lips.
What’s truly ours is never “mine”;
Our love flows in our joyful slips.

To slake these seasons writhe infernal;
We are the well that springs eternal.
