PAYMENT

Through eyes half-closed,
This brilliant sky seems to fade,
Into cold, dark, emptiness.
I feel betrayed, but only by myself.
I fell too far.
I was consumed.
I let my blood run out.
I let him take me,
I forgot how to fight.
And now it seems I’m paying the price.
I can feel it infect, and fester, about my soul.
My stomach is growing sick,
My tears are running dry…
I am as forgotten as a corpse,
But somehow can’t die.

This is defintely one for your book, Manders. I love the title too; titles can add so much when they are just right like this, a sort of encapsulation of the poem to follow without giving away its secret. You know the title is perfect when, after you have finished reading the poem, the title clicks in the mind in a moment of understanding, and it all comes together in a circuit of meaning.

Good one, Mandy, and good to hear from you, as always.

Love,

+Stevie

I actually put it in my book. I think I have a completed list. It's called, Hole In My Chest. I included the following poems...

Hole
Fall Away
Ties That Bind
No One Saw
In Thin Air
Payment
Sacrafice
Shifting Depths
Replenish
Puppeteers
Never Exist
My Demise
Box
And Suddenly Alone, There is Nothing
To Dying things
These Dark Lines
Under Winter's Snow
The Missing
From The Light
Birth
Rock Bottom
Piece By Piece
Cry Awake
Perfect Form Broken
Lover's Hell
Last

It's all 26 poems, but I don't care I just want them in a nice book, I'll probably be the only one buying it anyway. Don't care much if other people buy it, I just want a nice presentation.

Mandy, I think you have arranged the poems perfectly, and the title is ideal.

Twenty-six is enough; it's better to have a book of your twenty-six favorite poems than to wonder what should have been left out or put in: you have it figured out well, and the problem solved. I admire your decisiveness; I can tell you: this is how you have to do it, just as you have done. Just jump in with both feet; better to do a book than not, and you will most probably do more. "He who hesitates is lost." Too often is the impulse of intuition stifled and denied. The way your book is being born is just the way my new book was born, in decisive action upon the impulse of intuition. Trust yourself. You made the poems, and you can make the book; making the book is making a poem of poems.

Twenty-six is a good number! The number of the letters of the alphabet. I know nice people who are twenty-six, too. Tell you what: I will definitely buy a copy of Hole in My Chest, and I will be proud to have it.

I am really proud of you, Manders Flanders!

Congratulations, and all the luck and love in the world to you,

+Stevie
