THE RIPEST OF PLUMS

Sinewy steel stroking the keys.
Smithing out songs for the masses to please.
Delicate fingers are bridging the octaves.
Provoking emotion from the place where the heart lives.

Touching the lives of the few and the many.
Making a difference to the good and the plenty.
Never awake from the haze of my dream.
Allow me to treasure the diva supreme.

The simplest joy I embrace with an ear
And drift to the day the Enchantress is near.
The cruelest of fates I accept as my cross.
And bear its great weight till the end of my loss.

To the future my thoughts find a happier place
Immersed in the sound in the midst of her grace.
The smooth saxophone whispers sweets in my drums
And harvests my heart like the ripest of plums.

So many moons have encircled the ages
Peeling back time and the calendar pages.
Counting the suns as the rays warm the grass.
In wait for the sultry tunesmitherous lass.

Thanks to all for your kind words. For those of you who don't know the story, I am a huge fan of the beautiful and talented Miss Dana Glover. She is a singer/songwriter most famous for her love song from the original Shrek soundtrack entitled "It Is You I Have Loved". Her debut album entitled "Testimony" has spoken to my heart and lifted me through many dark times. I consequently have become a loyal fan and supporter. She was scheduled to make an appearance in Dallas in July of 2003 at the Gypsy Tea Room. I purchased tickets to see the show. Dana became ill on the night she was supposed to perform, and I have been waiting ever since for her to return, for my rain check. Every so often I go to her website and post another poem in an attempt to entice/annoy her to return to Dallas. It has become quite the running joke among the regulars on the message board there. Anyway, that is where all the poetry for the sultry tunesmitherous lass comes from.
