This theory relates one set of physical laws acting in a volume with a different set of physical laws acting on a boundary surface.

The holographic theory involves negatively curved spacetime known as anti-de Sitter space.

Imagine disks of hyperbolic (check out artwork of M.C. Escher) space stacked atop one another, each representing the state of the universe at one instant. The resulting cylinder is three-dimensional anti-de Sitter space in which the height dimension represents time.
