"Me First" and "After You"

The question of sin has vexed humankind
For every day of our thousands of years
So much that some have now left it behind
Yet sin remains real still causes real tears
What is sin? It is nothing more nor less
Than pride and ordinary selfishness
As briefest expressed best and worst: "Me First"

We wonder why some people need to be
Better than we are although they are not

But then we remember that vanity
Which is the pride and selfishness of sin
And having remembered what they forgot
We can understand their hearts and begin
To purify our own left here alone
With all of the rest of humanity
Who say "After You" in community
