Running in Place

Written without contraction
With the whole heart
Abstraction as reaction
Such is the art
Of a misfit motley man
Groping for grace

Growing as fast as one can
Running in place
Trying to outrun the past
And that one face
Of both love and hate at last
Running out of time and space

Contradiction
Embracing absurdity
With conviction
By action of redaction
Undistracted I would be
If only in refraction

A poet as poetry
