Outside
Of a summer Sunday morning
Swing my steps to take me wide
With a notion without warning
I am going now: outside
I have brooded too long gloomy
Where the sunbeams never shine
Out about to still more roomy
Places I will claim for mine
Should the bagels all be eaten
Down at Starbucks on the square
Never mind I am unbeaten
Surely they have coffee there
Pour it steamy strong and tarry
Black as coal and hot as hell
Jolt me till the sky is starry
That I write alive and well
I know I ought to go to church
But like Morticia Gomez Lurch
And Grandmama and Fester too
My father son and maybe you
I mean to wait for Tenebrae
Lest I be overdone by day
Yet step by step one at a time
In line by line eccentric rhyme
Headlong into this sunny clime
Of a summer Sunday morning
Swing my steps to take me wide
With a notion without warning
I am going now: outside
