Candle of Our Hope

Enough of all the crass vulgarity
Of those who care for war more than the poor
Unworthy is their harsh hegemony
Of you and me and in the end they bore

They huff and puff and seek to frighten us
Are darkest when they would enlighten us
But they are only sadly misused tools
Enslaved without their knowledge by the fools
Who own and operate the world today

If we think independently we are
Thought blasphemous subversive and bizarre
They wish they could just make us go away
But this is our land too where we were born

So why will they not allow us to warn
That something is wrong in the USA?

I am a cat with claws and I strike back
When cowards lie in wait to then attack
When I am weak as they sneak up on me
I leave to the justice of destiny
Their judgment but we will be free someday

Yet even in this darkness I see light
The candle of our hope flickers somehow
That here among the wrong one thing is right
No yesterday tomorrow only now:

This love which you and I share here tonight
