Sorry everyone. I headed back to baltimore for my Ph.D. graduation ceremony and subsequently drove from Baltimore to Davis, CA, which is a 2600 mile cross-country drive. Unfortunately, during that time, there was a server issue (for brainmeta.com and primate-brain.org) that required my attention to fix, and so the server ended up being down for six days (until I returned to Davis, CA). Sorry about that. I will take steps to ensure it doesn't happen again.

everything seems to be working fine now. I'll try to make sure it stays like that.

It's good to see you and the site back Shawn!
Do you have any ideas yet about the log-in / log-out problem?
I still can't log in!

hi Bill, it's good to see you back too. I will do what it takes to keep the site up and will have the log-in problem fixed asap. With the log-in problem, it seems I can log-in ok on a particular computer, but not from others, which suggests that maybe the log-in is dependent on the ip address that you normally have logged on with. If so, this problem should be relatively easy to fix.

thanks Rick. I believe the server problems have been fixed, but won't know for another couple of days how reliable things are. Earlier today, yet another problem cropped up but has been dealt with. Hopefully, there will not be anymore problems, but if there are, they will be promptly dealt with.

sorry everyone. There was another problem with the DNS server last night and this morning but I think I have it fixed now. I'll know later today whether it's fixed for good.

I believe the DNS server issue has been permanently fixed, which means that
http://brainmeta.com and
http://primate-brain.org should always be accessible now. The solution involved redundancy of DNS servers to implement fault-tolerance; i.e., set up multiple DNS servers to guard against one or more being down.

rhymer long properly here again!
I've just tried the 'forgotten password' dialog sequence and not had an email with my password after 5 minutes.
If I get one I'll post again.
This might be another clue!

I can now confirm that all server (web and dns) problems are fixed. BrainMeta will not be going offline anytime in the foreseeable future.
